Class D Amplifier(s) for SWARM Subwoofer System @peter_s As I mentioned before, if one of your cables is wired out of phase with the other then the sub amp will only play out of phase bass information. IOW it would sound weak. So check your interconnect cables to see if they are both wired corr...
Amp, Preamp, two volume pots, there can be only one! @neverlast With full output at only 300mV your amplifier is far too sensitive. Since it can only make 8 Watts, it has to be used on a high efficiency speaker. So you'll be fighting noise. So yes, that's a bit of a mismatch! Usually SETs (or SEP i...
Who out there wants to, or has, validated an amazing cable find? advice to try Mogami for XLR... and that any quality wire in an XLR implementation is going to get the job done. I’ve been using Mogami 2549 (22awg) for XLR into my Ayre VX-5 Twenty. @jim2 Just for the record that wasn't exactly my advice. My a...
Class D Amplifier(s) for SWARM Subwoofer System Jensen ISO-MAX PC-2XR, which converts the balanced to SE signal (and +4 to -10 db conversion). I am guessing that Ralph is doing the same, but require confirmation. @peter_s I run the same configuration and it works fine. You might test your bala...
What's the benefit of balanced tonearm cables? zombie thread come to eat your brains!
Does a turntable mat make any difference? What else can put 220 class A watts into 20 ohms @mijostyn Sound Labs actually get to 30 Ohms in the bass. That's why solid state amps have a hard time driving them.
Western Electric 300 B Vacuum tubes @moose89 I’ve been doing this stuff for over 45 years. That’s a new one on me. FWIW, usually anything other than the filament being lit and a light blue glow just on the inside of the glass when running, any ’lights’ or other phenomena inside a t...
Good Speakers for Rock and Roll Under 15K Can you measure dynamics and punch of a speaker? @mofojo Yes. There is something called ’thermal compression’ that has to do with the voice coil heating with bass notes and the like. When the voice coil heats, its harder for the amp to put cu...
Is more amp power always better...? @dunkin The most important thing is that the amp have good clean reproduction at a low power level like 1 Watt because even with your speakers that will be a common power level. The class of operation, the amount of power isn't important as long ...
Western Electric 300 B Vacuum tubes @moose89 What color is the 'vapor' (BTW its not actually a vapor but it is caused by molecules in the tube)? If bluish, no concern.
Help me find a pre-amp @rkfaberdds Did you mean a Mac 611? The 612 does not come up in a google search as an amp. If yes, are you looking for a balanced preamp?
Does a turntable mat make any difference? @mijostyn I might be confused. It happens easily. If you are planning to run the MA-2s 5K and above, it should do that fine. But I think it will do better 5K and below. At 5KHz and above there really isn't much musical energy, partially because ou...
New TT : Balanced vs. Unbalanced Connection? There are two separate sets of inputs, with selectable gain between Low (51dB BAL / 45dB SE) and High (74dB BAL / 68dB SE). I can confirm that these products meet specification. My best to you. @cleeds If this is correct then the input isn't d...
Good Speakers for Rock and Roll Under 15K Any tech dude in the manufacturing space seems to think he knows everything there is to know about music (anything he doesn’t know is all one big myth!). Why don’t you have a seat someday and talk to guys like Levinson (too late for the late Schw...
Does a turntable mat make any difference? It will also take a big load off the MA 2s as the processor is pushing the amps to make high end up to the limit which I think is 6dB. @mijostyn There's no energy up there- its not a significant load for the MA-2s. |
