the dB/octave specification of the crossover?
it really depends on the drivers involved.  a blend between a woofer and tweeter needs to "sum" to fill in the frequencies through the crossover range.  if both drivers are cut off sharply at the crossover frequency that missing summing could come...
Amp matching for Klipsch Forte III
I heard them paired with a McIntosh integrated and the sound was excellent.  I suspect the mellow sound of the Mac tamed some brightness that some find
Decoupling Speakers
the only reason to decouple is if something is being excited by vibration and it becomes audible.  your floor is being excited but it is massive and solid enough not to be audible. your stands are also high mass and rigid and doubtful they are bei...
AT-ART9 cartridge on Marantz TT-15s1 - I don't think I'm getting the performance I should
Have you tried turning off the anti-skate to see if that is the problem?  Have you used a bubble level on the flat part of the tonearm headshell?  The ART9 is sensitive to VTA.  Level the platter with the bubble level and then check the level of t...
Honest question about cartridge vs. turntable performance.
Whenever I have upgraded a turntable, my vinyl system does sound better but it has been more or less depending on the cartridge. My first good turntable was a VPI Traveler II and the sound was incredible.  After a few years I wanted to upgrade and ...
Pass XA 25 versus Parasound A21+ - anyone compare?
@shahram i did sell the steteo 100 . excellent amp but there were times i wanted a little more volume. the a21+ does that very well without losing much. the stereo100 would have been perfect with higher efficiency speakers than my 86db harbeths.
Bob Carver Crismson 275 Stereo vs. Rogue Stereo 100
Stereo100 not even close.  Look at the chassis of each.  The Stereo100 has several large capacitors for reserve power store.  The amplifier excels at transparency and dynamics and sounds much more powerful than its 100 watt rating.  In my system i...
Pass XA 25 versus Parasound A21+ - anyone compare?
I have been enjoying a Parasound a21+ for two days now and it is a very nice sounding amplifier.  Driven from a tube preamp and driving Harbeth SHL5+ speakers.  The sound is different than the original a21 which had its issues as a true audiophile...
Pass XA 25 versus Parasound A21+ - anyone compare?
OP is asking about a21 "plus" not the outgoing a21. we would assume an improvement in the new model, which was recently rated Stereophile Class A. Also compared favorably to the Benchmark AHB2. For such exclusive amps used Pass Labs are frequently...
KEF Reference 1s or LS50s
My vote goes to the LS50 as the speaker I would rather listen to.  I owned a pair and loved them.  I spent an afternoon listening to a pair of REF 1s.  Beautiful speaker, disappointing sound.
wide baffles and baffle step
@audiokinesisWith respect to baffle step compensation, unless the baffle is wide enough to impinge on the limits of room space and physical practicality there will be an audible 3db loss of all frequencies below the baffle step frequency. For exam...
TVs' sharpness control and modern speaker design
the bygone tone control adjustments might be a more apt comparison.  these days dealers impress with big bass at high volume with carefully selected demo music.
wide baffles and baffle step
the excellent wide baffle designs succeed in spite of the wider baffle not because of it.  wider baffles create the need for additional crossover components and complicate the voicing recipe.  wider baffles do allow for larger woofers and enclosur...
What's your "diminishing returns" preamp choice?
I love my Rogue Audio RH5 Linestage and headphone amp.  At $2500 without phono stage it uses two 12au7 tubes, massive power supply transformers, 3 gain settings (really nice feature), balanced output and one balanced input/ 3 single ended inputs. ...
wide baffles and baffle step
wide baffles reflect more midrange back into the room because the larger wavelengths cannot disperse around to the back of the enclosure. this creates an uneven response at midrange frequencies that must be filtered with a BSC circuit in the cross...
