Science that explains why we hear differences in cables? I believe you will find that Max Townshend also subscribes to the waveguide phyiscs in the design of his cables. They do seem to work for me.
What equipment should I invest in next? Townshend Podiums followed by power clean up.
Bang for the buck vs. “money no object” cable recommendations I have the Inakustics 4004 Air Ref cables. They are very nice. Bought them on the recommendation of a dealer I trust. Never led me astray. I have not compared to others. My feeling is that you need great cables, and you get 98% if what you are...
Looking for my "last" CD transport I recently bought a vintage Meridian 598, supposed to be the best cd/dvd player they ever made. It was in fine shape. The sound quality was much better than my $300 Sony. However, I bought it with the realization that it could go out at any mo...
Building new system starting with power amp. What would you choose ? I have a Krell KSA-80B which sounds even better than an ML-2. It puts 640 watts into my One Ohm Apogee Scintillas. It never strains. Its very musical. I had it factory recapped a couple of years ago. Its my amp for life.
DVD player playing CD's I used to use a Sony UBP x800 to play cd's. It sounded fine. However, I now use a Meridian 598 DVD audio player to play my cd's and the sound is even better. The Meridian does have a dvd vs just a cd transport. The electronics of the Meridian ...
"Musical" subwoofers? Advice please on comparing JL subs Strongly suggest Vandersteen Model 3 Subs if you want the most musical result. I did that with my Apogee Scintillas, One Ohm and its a marvelous solution. Got his best High Pass Crossover. Talk to John Rutan an Audio Connection, he knows his st...
PS Audio Power Plant 15........ It could be that the P15 has a bad resistor or cap or some component that is limiting its capability. Perhaps get another one and try it in the same system?
How will I know when a Krell KSA-80b needs to be recapped? I had this done on my KSA 80B in 2018 at the Krell Factory. The did recap the PS with the big caps, and also several caps on each board, and set the unit up to drive one ohm Apogee Scintillas. Been running fine ever since--3 years now.
D'agostino amplifiers: where's the beef? bobbydd-----"I'd rather have an old Krell and a new Porsche Boxster or C8 Corvette for the same money"I almost agree with you. I have a 35 year old Krell KSA-80B factory recapped driving my Apogee Scintilla One Ohms--and a BMW X3 30 e Hybrid. Fe...
Ok now I am frustrated with streaming Most of the hi end sites avoid wi fi for the best results, but offer it as a feature. Suggest going hard wire. If it still distorts, there is something else wrong.
Can anyone recommend a good streamer/DAC? I had a Mytek Manhattan II and it was excellent. Sold it and bought a Meridian Ultra Dac. I figure it was advanced enough that it was not going to be outdated in my lifetime. (I am 75 years young). Moved up from a Naim. The sound is the best ...
Tekton speakers with Ribbon / AMT ?? There is nothing like ribbons done correctly. Very difficult to integrate with cones. I am enjoying my Apogee Scintillas--no integration required.
Magnepan Ribbons and Hearing Loss Just remember that when you listen to live music, you are listening thru these same ears. You should be looking to reproduce what you hear live, properly recorded. Ears for live and ears for hi fi are the same, so it should not be an issue.
The best "imaging" speakers? Apogee Scintillas |
