Are there other people like me ? Amazed by their low cost system :) Throughout my HiFi journey, I have been amazed by relatively low cost components several times. My little Dragonfly and PSB headphones provided and unbelievable upgrade for computer listening, which I did at work. That was 500$ very well spent. ...
Vintage tube sound from a modern amp I have a Cary Audio SLI-100. I’m a newb audiophile. My only real comparison was a McIntosh MA352. The Cary was the clear winner at thousands less. It has more detail and clarity while not getting fatiguing at all. Very happy with the purchase. Th...
What selections do you play when showing off your system to others? Chocolate Chip Trip-Tool Anything by Marcus Miller. Insanely great recordings. Hotel California- Eagles live Fallin- Alicia Keys Race with the Devil on a Spanish Highway- Al Dimeola Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough- Michael Jackson Eva Cassidy...
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System? Guitar player in my band thinks I'm nuts as he buys and sells guitars every 5 minutes and does the same with his Jeeps :) He has a Visio soundbar. I'll tell people if they ask. I've been frugal all my life and finally splurged. I still work my b...
New Dennis Had amps I’m definitely in love with my SLI-100, the evolution of Dennis’s SLI-80- paired with my Cornwall IV’s. The never fatiguing and warm sound, yet somehow retains detail. Can’t wait to get my listening room finished.

Streamer Upgrade Bluesound Node To Aurender N10 The Bluesound is handy and affordable but at the low end of the SQ spectrum in the HiFi world IMHO. The fact that power supply upgrades costing hundreds of dollars exist for the unit told me that it had no place in my 5 figure midfi system. I adde...
DAC’s While keeping the streamer and DAC makes a lot if sense, for synergy and financial purposes I went with a Cary Audio DMS650. They are made in the US right here in Raleigh NC. I can only compare with my lackluster Bluesound Node, but there is abso...
Streamer/DAC - Where is the value? While I definitely understand the wisdom of keeping the two separate, I purchased a bundle from Cary Audio. Their DMS650 is a DAC/Streamer priced at $4800. They are always running sales and you could probably get 15% off right now Unfortunately...
How much is about the recording On my system the difference is absolutely staggering. Not too many recordings sound horrible, but man the really great recordings are just mind boggling. I will be finishing a room for listening in the near future. Very anxious to see what proper ...
Dedicated room suggestions Just had a thought- imagine if everything was as well recorded as Steely Dan or Marcus Miller- this would barely matter :) I know that's not true but even under far from optimal conditions man do those recordings sound amazing.
Cable burn in So yeah I should have mentioned my sources are Qobuz and a USB attached SSD drive with CD’s ripped using Jriver. Thanks again for all the great feedback.
Cable burn in @pehare what a coincidence. I was just watching a positive review on Mogami. Pro audio makes a lot of sense. I imagine they have power cables as well. Where are you located? I’m in Apex NC.
Dedicated room suggestions @grislybutter yeah I pretty much went all in. I have no intention of trying out a thousand different options and obsessing over every nuance, losing 20k in the process. I wanted power, bass, speed, realism. Huge, room filling sound. It's all there...
Cable burn in Also, if the cheapest cables end up sounding best to me, they will remain. I plan on trying Steve Huff's $40 speaker cable recommendation as well. If I can sell my Audioquest and still be happy, that will be done. This is not about $$$ or bragging... |
