What speakers are replace Klipsch horns? I recommend you keep the K-horns. If you've been enjoying your music through them for 25 years, you will most certainly miss the effortless dynamics and the room filling capability. If, as the other members suggest, you change the veneer and grill...
Spades or bananas Bare wire gets my vote! Makes a good argument for purchasing bulk, IF you can find what you want. Spades would be my second choice. Though they are less convenient than bannanas, a tight connection is always assured. I've experienced variation in ...
Least Losses: Long speaker cable vs. Long Interconnect? I've read, in TAS I think, that the reviewer considered a minimum length of around 8' for speaker cables to be desireable in order to get a good measure of their sonic performance. Advise on 845 Set amp and Speakers to match. Steve-Just for the record, an 845 is not a "low powered SET amp".Because of the ~25wpc it brings to the party, most SET adherents would consider it a muscle amp. This gives you real versatility, and greatly opens up your options for speaker matchi...

Class "A" solid state vs. Tube amp.? A hearty Amen to both above posts. Redkiwi has it right. The conventional "wisdom" that's been floated for decades is that combining a tube preamp with a solid state amp gives you "the best of both worlds". IMHO, this may be valid if your musical ...
Conrad Johnson PV11 tube noise Sounds like you have a microphonic 12au7 linestage tube. I had the same problem in my pv11 a couple of years ago. I tried nos 12au7 tubes (tele, mullard, amperex) and found them pleasant sounding but lacking in "liveness" and a bit opaque when compa...
Air Bladder Isolation, Cheap I recommend avoiding using metal shelves or plates under or on top of audio components. In my experience this can cause audible sonic degradation, i.e. brightness and hash. |
