What is the best CDP to be used as a Transport?
I also have a CD 80 and am using it now with an EAD 7000 Mk 111. IMHO this makes a pretty tough to beat combo. I am going to interested also in the replies to this thread.Have you tried any other transports?
Review: Philips CD-880 CD Player
I also own a CD80 from circa '89. It does not say Bitstream anywhere on it. However, I am pretty sure it samples at 16bit 4X. I am getting ready to use it as a transport only with a EAD 7000 that has been upgraded to Mk 3 status. I wander if anyon...
Am I missing something in the MFSL Tarkus LP
That's the problem Marakenetz, the MFSL Lp costs about 20 times the original! I just must be missing something, because most of the MFSL 200G's are awesome. This one just seems to be no better than any other 70's processed Lp. I checked the phase,...
ONE shot to show off your System's Stuff
On CD I would definitely go with the soundtrack from Gladiator, on Lp I think a mint copy of Muddy Waters' Folk Singer on MFSL 200G.
speaker placement in a tough room, please help.
Rives and Kana813, thanks for the responses. I always prefer to listen in a dark room regardless of size, since I agree with you that the distractions are absent and the music seems to bloom more. Incidentally, the Hales Sig's 2 have little bass i...
speaker placement in a tough room, please help.
Rives, thanks for the response. Oddly enough when I had these speakers in a largish room ( 20x15) the sound was actually inferior than in my current smaller room (15x13).This effect has been noticed by me on numerous systems, the intimacy of the p...
speaker placement in a tough room, please help.
Thanks Rives, the room has a continuous slope from low to high. The room will be used as a dedicated room, I'm a little worried about how small it is, but these days in S.Cal the price of the room makes the equipment price seem almost inconsequential.
benz ruby
Used to own the Ruby, now own the Ruby 2. In a nutshell, the original Ruby, circa 1990 had an output of 0.2mv, while the Ruby 2 has 0.3mv. The Ruby 2 is a little more resolving and airy in the top end. According to Garth the new Ruby 2 is a biig im...
Best Phono stage for a .3 mv Ruby 2 ?
I use my Ruby 2 with the CAT signature phono stage. Seems like a match made in heaven, the Ruby likes to be loaded down to about 700 ohms,IMHO much airier and resolving than at the standard 47K.Plenty of gain with the CAT, even had enough gain wit...
Has anyone heard the Usher Audio Speakers
Heard these a couple of months ago. Sorry can't remember which model, but it had the Thiel ceramic drivers and a 10"bass driver. Sound was truly exceptional, great imaging with a high end that was smooth and non-fatiguing.The bass was good down to ...

Am I the only one who thinks B&W is mid-fi?

Current Linn Lingo vs. older style?
jenmoor, any difference in sound between new and old lingo?
has anyone actually heard the decapos ???
HEARD THE DE CAPOS A COUPLE OF MO'S AGO. THEY ARE PRETTY AMAZING SPEAKERS. WHAT THEY DO, THEY DO BETTER THAN ALMOST ANY SPEAKER I HAVE HEARD. IMAGING, DYNAMICS, TOP END EXTENSION, SEEMLESS INTEGRATION OF DRIVERS. NO REAL BOTTOM END AND NOT REALLY ...
Advice on Jeff Rowland 8Ti
You might want to hear an earlier version with the choke power supply, if you can feed it with clean AC then you might prefer the sound to the more recent versions with the dual mono supply. What speakers are you planning on driving with the 8?
