Class A\B or D for summer months (vs Class A)
@tbac23, I had in-room heating issues in the summer with my XA30.8 and swapped to the (very) cool running AtmaSphere Monos and I found the sound signature between the two amps to be very similar.  e.g. no fatigue, nice midrange centric presentatio...
Moon 390 Network Streamer
@mahler123, when claiming a long term and well respected company is going out of business, it would be nice to back up your claim with a source... @skads_187, the 740P+250.8 make a very nice pre/amp pair!  I ran that pair with a 380DSD DAC for ma...
Preamp for my CODA 5.5 amp
I'm using a SimAudio 740P preamp with my 5.5, and they make a great pair!  My favorite amp up to this point with the 740 was the Pass X250.8, and I think this pairing is just as good overall if not better.   I don't personally see it as a hard req...
Class D is just Dandy!
I found that the #16 needs a DAC or other sources that play nice with Class A. A rolled of DAC is a no go for me with the #16. @yyzsantabarbara, I just purchased a Coda S5.5 which is 50w Class A and find it so clean and revealing compared to my...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
Has anyone using the S5.5 noticed they are playing their music louder than normal? To try and protect what hearing I have remaining I tend to monitor my listening volumes but have noticed since I purchased the S5.5 I'm listening closer to the 90d...
ARE SUPER EXPENSIVE STREAMERS REALLY WORTH IT
@russbutton, have you ever tried different streamers to see if you hear a difference in your system?    Like you, I also believe bits are bits, but I also have tried a couple streamers and other tweaks (LPS vs switching power supplies, fiber vs c...
Considering a Hegel preamp
I owned a Hegel P20 and Pass XP-10 at the same time to compare with my Pass X250.8 amp.   I preferred the sound of my system with the P20.  I felt it was more resolving and exciting compared to the XP-10, at least with the Pass amplifier.
Which company manufactures this Ethernet switch for the other?
The premium streaming services such as Qobuz and Tidal use TCP/IP protocol to deliver bit-perfect data to your streamer. Back in the day when I wrote software for telecom products we used Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP over UDP) for our Voic...
Advice on Optical Ethernet Conversion
In testing it with the cheaper FMC, I would say the audible difference was marginal, but the overall quality seemed more refined. @jimboman  A few years ago I added a switch with fiber and an EtherRegen+LPS and created the 'fiber bridge' from ...
Solid state amp that tube fan can be happy with?
35.2 lb Westminster Labs REI These class A amps do look great and from Robert Harley’s review in June their sound signature seems like something many would like. But for $33,900 per pair, they better be game changers! If you don’t need more th...
Solid state amp that tube fan can be happy with?
I've only owned one tube amplifier (PrimaLuna) so my tube amplifier experience is very limited.  I have generally settled though on SS amps I thought offered some of the tube like qualities I enjoyed. The amps I've owned that I associate closest ...
The Stereo Times Coda S5.5 amplifier just posted today. Thanks guys
I just purchased an S5.5 and have maybe 100hrs on it. My speakers (Spendor D9s) are easy to drive. I’ve owned a Pass X250.8 and Bryston 4B3 with the D9s and I think the 50w/c S5.5 sounds/feels like the most powerful amplifier I’ve had using them! ...
IS THE WEISS 204 A SUBSTANIAL UPGRADE FRON THE CHORD QUTEST
@kjl1065, personally I think only you can decide if something is a 'substantial upgrade' based on your room, system components, ears, preferences, etc... Try to buy used at a decent price (allowing easy flip) or new with a return window.  In my e...
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"!
I just pulled the trigger on a black S5.5, and now have to wait for it to be built and arrive.  I've never heard a Coda amplifier before, but it meets many of the requirements I'm looking for in my next amplifier. The list of my most recent amps ...
Stereo Times Review on the SPL s900 amplifier
I rolled the dice on the Coda and purchased a new unit.   If I'm not happy with it, maybe I'll then try the SPL.   Since my speakers have a 90dB Sensitivity and not forgiving of anything bright, the Class A Coda seems like maybe a better match for...
