Bose buys McIntosh
50 years ago (early/mid 70s), Marantz was bought by Superscope and the response among audiophiles at that time was much the same as what we're seeing here. Now, the classic Marantz gear from that era is selling like hotcakes, with receivers like t...
Now What?
Thanks for the suggestion mahler 123, but the actual solution turned out to be so obvious that I overlooked it. Those with higher tech IQs than mine will laugh, but all I needed to do was re-establish my WiFi using the Surfboard's ID code. To thos...
Digital Sputter or Stutter?
Yeah - I just need to get some real-time experience under my belt (like the 53 years I've had with analog and digital (CD) equipment.
Digital Sputter or Stutter?
Thanks for the suggestion, but the problem has not re-occurred and I think it was my fault to begin with (won't go into the details). I'm on a learning curve and it's like a toddler just beginning to walk.
Can You Trust a Shipper? (UPS, Fed-Ex, etc)
Good point on 'Fragile' stickers on packages - they have about as much impact as the old 'Baby On Board' decals do/did. Choice of packing materials and double-boxing are the most critical factors in the shipping equation, IMO. Maybe a sticker sayi...
Can You Trust a Shipper? (UPS, Fed-Ex, etc)
That is exactly what happened to me, but the recipient in my case was not trustworthy, so you are one lucky duck!
Can You Trust a Shipper? (UPS, Fed-Ex, etc)
Amen, grislybutter! UPS customer interface protocol is designed to confuse, confound, and perplex anyone with a complaint to the point that they just give up. I consider myself to be fairly intelligent, and I was like a blind man in a maze when I ...
Can You Trust a Shipper? (UPS, Fed-Ex, etc)
1. UPS truck pulled into my driveway on July 15th to deliver the package, but driver could not find it on truck.  2. Received message from ebay that delivery had been rescheduled for Monday, July 17.  3. On that Monday morning, got another ebay me...
Can You Trust a Shipper? (UPS, Fed-Ex, etc)
I am not doubting that the unit was packed to survive the trip; my point was that even though it was clear UPS had delivered the package to the wrong address, I'm still out of my money because PayPal's unbending rule is that if the shipper shows a...
The Rapid Rise (& Fall) of the CD
Do you own or rent your house (or whatever you live in)? Streaming is in effect 'renting' the music, and the cost never ends, and will surely increase. I have a fairly large collection of both vinyl and CDs, but just bought an entry level streame...
If Steely Dan had a different vocalist
I have been hooked on SD since 1972, when Can't Buy a Thrill was released and have all of their catalog. Amazingly, I just bought CBAT as a used CD on e-bay, so their first album was the last added to my collection. They were without a doubt one o...
What’s your opinion about Dali speakers?
I own the Helicon 400s, the C-200 center and the W-200 speakers, previously using the full set in my main HT system. But I seldom use that system if it's just me watching, so I felt like the 400s would be better used in a 2-channel system. The Hel...
Be Careful With UPS!
I quit requesting signature-required delivery when I retired a few years ago, since it is easy to be at home when delivery is scheduled. I may be biased, but FedEx appears to have a much better error-rate on their deliveries.....can't ever recall ...
Anyone Remeber CMC Stereo?
You had to ask that, which made me remember that the 1976 catalog had a listing of all of their stores and the states they were located in. No wonder very few have heard of them....they only had maybe 35 - 40 stores, mostly concentrated in five mi...
1990 Radio Shack catalog
I still have and use a digital clock with a fairly large red display in my living room, bought from RS in the late 80s or maybe early 90s, and I have a smaller version that sits atop the AVR in one of my AV systems. A pair of the nicer (made in J...
