Comparison of Thiel CS2.4 vs. Vandersteen 3A Sig. I agree these are very different sounding speakers. Personally, I could not live with either of them for more than a short period of time as the trade offs for each are too severe. Why not look into some other brands that split the difference in t...
Which $7000 speakers to ask Santa? Beheme:I heard the Zen Adagio's at a recent show and was unimpressed. Of course, a show setting is not ideal so take this for what it's worth. I applaud your interest in venturing into lesser known territory. My search began by narrowing the field...
Which $7000 speakers to ask Santa? Of those mentioned so far and that I forgot to include in my initial post I'd like to second the Focus Audio's and the Merlin's. Since you seem game to get off the beaten path I'd like to once again suggest the Daedalus DA-1's. Do a search on this...
Which $7000 speakers to ask Santa? Some information about the components used in front of the speakers would be helpful. One speaker that comes to mind is the Wilson Sophia. You might find a newer II version for a bit more than 7K but the Sophia I can certainly be had for that mone...
"I'll pay you later today" Overall, my experience with the A'gon community has been very positive. However my last sale had two different folks who backed out after committing to buy. It was a really frustrating experience and I'm sure I lost a few buyers who would have com...
Naim ? For me, the recent vintage electronics are a bit pricey for what you get. I'd only consider if driving a nice two way monitor like the Spendors or Harbeth line. The CD players are something else indeed. Also expensive but to my ears some of the be...
Tracking issue with dynavector 20XL "P.S. An easy way to make tiny, repeatable VTF adjustments on arms that lack a fine adjustment is to slip a few O-rings onto or off of the end stub".I wish I'd thought of that--adjusting VTF with the Scout is nearly impossible. The slightest movem...
Tracking issue with dynavector 20XL Doug:This is very interesting since I spent considerable time trying (in vain) to "pass" each successively tougher test, primarily by playing with the anti-skate adjustment. This I did first by twisting and untwisting the tonearm lead (as per the ...
Tracking issue with dynavector 20XL VPI suggests tracking that cartridge above the manufacturers figure. I can't find my notes but I believe I'm tracking my 20XM at around 2.375 (on a Scout). Call Mike at VPI and he will give you guidance. BTW, once you get it set up at the higher t...
Which "tweeks" are more important The EP2050 was $500--be sure to mention the recent review on Enjoy the Music to get that price. Deal directly with the manufacturer--I spoke to the owner of the company who designed the circuit and he was very generous with his time--I wish I coul...

Which "tweeks" are more important I recently added a device from Environmental Potentials to my electrical panel that had a substantial impact on the sound of my system. Mostly the improvement is in lowering the noise floor and allowing more detail to emerge in a warmer sonic land...
Advice on New Electrical Service Just to get back to everyone with thanks. The electrical work is done and I was able to get some of what I asked for during the process.I really couldn't get the town to perform tests on the transformer that sits on the pole outside my house. I ha...
Naim CD5x versus CDX2 Thanks to all for the help. After much research and contemplation I've decided to go with the CDX2. I was also considering the ARC CD3 and the Ayre CX7e but the Naim seems best suited to my system and needs. I've also had a chance to hear the CDX2...
Naim CD5x versus CDX2 You guys have any problems with isolating these players. Some folks suggest the Naim units are more prone to vibration than other players and must be used in conjunction with some form of isolation platform, feet ETC. |
