Ideal Volume level
it's more a dynamic range issue. While said tracking differences may be an issue, I have yet to hear any preamp suffer from this effect (ie enough channel imbalance to notice center fill shifting)..that would have to be one hideous potentiometer!!...
Interconnect and Speaker Cable Burn In
"Any suggestions would be much appreciated - keep in mind that I am somewhat technically challenged." Careful with that assertion at any audio dealer.FWIW, usually you would want some "load" present at the other end of the cable under test...if yo...
What Happened to Thiel?
ran a dns traceroute.... there servers are unreachable. Probably just a network anomaly that also took out phone.
Can anyone help me start building my own poweramp?
Kenneth P from Denmark:There are lots of diagrams in that book. I think it is a good read and presents a pretty thorough examination of the various stages of the power amp. Randy Sloan used to publish kits of high quality DIY amps. I think if you ...
Can anyone help me start building my own poweramp?
Go for it!!!do you have any electronics experience? How about hand tools and test equipment? How loud do you listen...what kind of music...etc...you need to figure out from your average SPL level at your listening distance and working backwards with...
Review: Antique Sound Labs Flora EX DT Line Preamplifier Tube preamp
A very tasty review! Clearly stated system goals, well written, drew me into it, made my mouth water for the Flora! I looked at a photo briefly and it looked like there was one set of XLRs. I assume you are running yours SE? How about listing some...
Promitheus TVC preamp
anyone using it balanced? I just ordered the sam special (with XLR i/o) Nick states that it is indeed a full balanced design and is not taking the balanced into single ended. As it should be...transformers were MADE for balanced!! I looked at the ...

Ever hear a power cable make a huge difference?
How do they gurantee the effects from the high voltage are lasting... The QT treatment sounds like it aligns the dipole moments of the di-electric...I wonder how they ensure this forced biasing actually sticks...
Ever hear a power cable make a huge difference?
i've built tesla coils and van de graff generators. I know exactly what you ware talking about. The intangible excitement surrounding that first right spark gap and correct resonance is nothing short of awesome. Yes to do it with solid state IGBT'...
Ever hear a power cable make a huge difference?
it's a small to mid sized basic Tesla coil, (not a Van de Graff generator). The tesla coil generates massive voltages that easily exceed the breakdown voltage of air. It would seem that the folks at SR are using the cable under test to connect the...
Componets first, cables second?
Whatever Pauly; I might have read too much into your posts (and or misread!), but I got a little riled up concerning your blatant rips on another's system. No harm no foul.Happy tunes.
Componets first, cables second?
paul: here is a term for you and your more money = audiophile notion:A-hole-ophile.
How many more years before cd's become passe?
For me the death of cd has been exaggerated (like most of you I am at the consumer level; however, if I worked in the music recording/distribution industry I might have a different opinion).I have had my squeezebox for about a year. I love the con...
A butt-load spent in cables - how much improvemt?
Muralman1Makes sense as those 9k cables are basically funding an R/D effort to tailor the sound with R,L,C, and dielectrics tuned for a particular voicing. These cables are far from "neutral", despite their best efforts to sound that way.
