Great acoustic bass for subwoofer integration
Like Jsaah says, there's alot out there. Nude Bass Ascending is one of Glen Moore's best. The Marks Brothers, (Mark Dresser and Mark Helias) went out of print, but is worth paying a little extra if you can find it. Good For Cows/Less Than Or Equal...
Great music but poor recording recommendations.
-Iggy and the Stooges, Raw Power/It's good to have this stuck in your head, but it's painful to go back and listen to cuz the recording is so bad. -Roland Kirk, Prepare Thyself to Deal With a Miracle-Sun Ra, Astro Black-Ornette Coleman, The Art Of...

2005 Remembrance
Ray Brown left in 2002, Rodney in 04. Just found out that Derek Bailey died last week. This guy was not an easy listen, (kind of like the Cecil Taylor of the guitar world), but the little bit that i've managed to soak up is amazing. Fortunately pl...
Zappa?
FZ's output covers a prodigeous amount of sq. footage. Hot Rats 2, (Waka Jawaka) is about as close to Grand Wazoo as yer gonna get. Both measure real high on the spiff o meter. Like other posters have said, nearly every Zappa record has something ...
Top Five for 2005
Drat... again there are too many to pick from -(it's horrible!). Here's a flimsy, not really airtight way of getting around the low numerical restriction:Inside:-Mogwai/Government Commissions -(Pocupine Tree, Tortoise and Floyd fans check this one...
Jazz recommendations?
You should get a ton of good recommendations. Nearly all the Bobo Stenson recordings might work and they have a pretty low processed cheese content. Might also want to try:Kirk Lightsey Trio/Goodbye Mr. EvansSteve Kuhn/Mostly BalladsEnrico Pieranu...
glam rock fans?
Sometimes the cosmetics don't have alot to do w/ the music. The Slade "Play it Loud" record was totally mascara free, and it was a crunching good rock record, (not alot different than the glitter festooned "Slade Alive"). Thin Lizzy, B.O.C., Alqui...
Your Top 5 Sax Players?
Desmond and Klemmer blow me away. Klemmer's "Eruptions" record (1970) is an amazing brain scorcher w/ tons of depraved guitar work, "Constant Throb" and "Intensity" are also excellent.
Your Top 5 Sax Players?
Frogman, It's obvious that you like some great stuff and i'd be hard pressed to disagree wit ya most of the time, but this thread is about looking back not forward, (it's also about whose playing you like most, not who was most influential). If yo...
Your Top 5 Sax Players?
There was no shortage of players around to develop strains of the smooth jazz pathogen, Paul Desmond might be viewed as a source. Tom Scott, John Klemmer, Klaus Doldinger and Jan Garbarek (all great players) probably would have pumped out the same...
Your Top 5 Sax Players?
The Five rule is masochistic and it makes otherwise highly deluxe members (Ejlif for example) commit horrible crimes of omission. Anyway here are a few more that shouldn't ought to be left out:Ken VandermarkScott Rosenberg (Rosenberg's Red/Owe)Tom...
Your 5 Fav Rock Concerts
If i ever get ahold of one of those time machine things, i might have to start off w/ that Uncle Meat show! I bet hardly anyone there in 69 was ready for it.
Acoustic Progressive Rock
Hmmmm, that is a dang good disc...hats off to the executive producer. The 1st Volapuk is another one that deserves mention.
Acoustic Progressive Rock
Univers Zero is so #$$%%@***!!! damn great that even if it did cause the occasional escape of a load i'd still have keep their discs and listen to em'. Alot of acoustic proggy stuff can make you gag and trip over gnomes whilst going for thee cuein...
