What is the first thing you do when you unwrap a new vinyl record?
First I inspect it to make sure it isn't dished, warped or defective in any way. Next, I zap it with my Zerostat and clean it on my Diskwasher (manually). Finally, I play it and listen for any faults. I've learned to perform this ritual within ...

My impulse advice: Eggelstonworks Andra III. Personally, I'm smitten by B&W 800 series D3 (I own 804D3). Best speakers for atmosphere, depth and detail I've ever heard (diamond tweeter?). Always lusted for the Extremas. Always unaffordable (...

Receiver
I've always heard Anthem receivers have very good sound. The last time I looked (several years ago) they got dinged due to a poor user interface (difficult to play with). Don't know if this has been corrected.

Another "Lost Concert" is Don Williams playing on PBS "In Concert" series circa 1979. The most perfect execution of the most profoundly beautiful songs I've ever heard. Haven't seen This show since. Just a crime it's not available.

@ozzy Read your post which prompted me to dig out my long-unplayed Ultradisk of this Rod Stewart masterpiece. Will play tonight! Thanks for the inspiration.

Bartok "Concerto for Orchestra" played for a live audience in the Royal Albert Hall, London. This performance was shown on a PBS tribute to Sir George Solti in the late 70s. Sir George gave an inspired performance, and the crowd went absolutely wi...
End of a long quest to vanquish sibilance.
It's important to realize that sibilance, and other distortions, are sometimes "baked in" to the recording. Nothing to do about this.
ATC SCM50 (passive) v. Devore O/93
Be sure to try on short wall VS long wall. Can make a big difference.

I had a problem with an Oppo 205 (forget what it was doing but something along your line). Oppo said it is a known problem with Sony TVs HDMI protocol. Forget what I did but problem no longer exists. Try removing your Sony from the chain and see w...

What’s your favorite audio show to attend and why?
IMO, AXPONA should move to Indianapolis. The show would have the run of the airport (10 minutes to downtown) and the entire downtown is nothing but bars and restaurants. Indy is like a mini Las Vegas (without the gambling). Lots of shiny new hotel...
