@mijostyn, which MI cartridge(s) have you listened to? I have a Soundsmith Sussurro Mark 2 ES currently, mounted on an SME 312s. It’s by far the best I’ve heard so far, besting my previous Benz Ruby 3, and Kiseki Purpleheart. It tracks as well as ...
Turntable Speed
The SOTA Eclipse package with Condor and Roadrunner is a very worthwhile upgrade for a belt drive turntable that you are invested in that doesn’t have automatic speed correction. I did the upgrade on my VPI Classic 4 myself. Combined with an Origi...
Who has switched from a PS Audio BHK Preamp to something else?
The ARC Ref 6SE was a big step up from the BHK in my system. Everything is better fleshed out, especially voices, it sounds more real, and detail resolution is improved. The BHK sounds flat in comparison. I was able to improve its performance with...
Purple Heart = Purple Rain?
Take a look at Soundsmith Paua or Sussurro. I have the latter. It tracks better and retrieves more detail than the Purpleheart which I had. The Purpleheart was also a pain to set up and I also had to get Upscale Audio to send one or two replacemen...
Who makes the best turntable belt?
Good info, thanks everyone. My Roadrunner is showing about the same variance, so I’m going to pat myself on the back for my superglue job!
Who makes the best turntable belt?
Thanks, you reminded me that I need to give Christian at SOTA my dimensions again. He has a belt and it may or may not fit.
Harbeth 40.2 or Vandersteen Quatro CT
And if you do go with the Vandersteens, the Pass Labs amps will probably hold you back from what they are truly capable of. I say that as a former owner of XA 60.8s, but I have not heard the 260.8s. A no global feedback amp is a better choice. I h...

@rauliruegas I’m quite sure the tonearm is fine and I’ve run three different cartridges in it - a Benz Ruby 3, a Kiseki Purpleheart, and now the Soundsmith Sussoro, which by far tracks and reveals the best I’ve heard. It was a bit of a challenge a...

Most of my music listening is classical and unfortunately I prefer large scale symphonic pieces that of course tend to have crescendos right where you don’t want them in the inner grooves. Dave Chesky understood this well and wisely avoided the in...
Top linear trackers
Thanks everyone for your responses. It makes for interesting research! I'm hell bent on eliminating the curse of standard pivoted arms.
Top linear trackers
@rauliruegas those are interesting options. I'm most intrigued by the Schroeder design which looks simplest. The Thales would appear to suffer from skating seen in conventional pivoted arms, due to the headshell being offset as it traverses, albei...
Granite Bases for Vandersteen speakers
I wonder if IsoAcoustics footers would work even better, or perhaps those footers on granite would be ideal. I would think just using a granite plate would compensate for a bouncy floor, but at the same time easily reflect vibrations back into the...
Have speakers really improved within the last 20 years??
We didn’t have the super low distortion from dynamic drivers that is now available: https://www.vandersteen.com/news/the-truth-about-pistonic-driver-cones
Cartridge suggestions for SME Turntable
I suggest running the resonant frequency calculations on a Soundsmith Sussurro Mark 2 with that arm. I’m using one on an SME 312s. It’s definitely the best cartridge I’ve heard, besting the Benz Ruby 3 and a Kiseki Purpleheart.
Audio tips for rewiring old home
Given all that needs to be done, especially with all that rewiring, I don’t think it would cost much more to have your electrician run a dedicated line of 12/2 to a 20 amp breaker, and connect that to a pair of those hospital grade outlets in one ...
