moscode 300 hypbrid? Worthwhile?
I've owned Moscode 300 and 600 amplifiers. They are very musical sounding amps with plenty of power. Since they are hybrids, they have a unique sound that has been described by some as romantic with good bass. (I can attest to the strong bass).The...
Tube Monoblocks for heavy music on Khorns
K-Horns are so efficient, that you really don't need hardly any power at all. Heck, your iPod you could prob sufficiently drive them.Obviously, being horns, you definitely want a tube amp - and there are many very good choices amongst low-powered ...
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
Krell KRS 100 or 200 Monos - best amps ever made by Krell and they sound wonderful. Probably the most powerful real-world production amps you can buyGryphon Antileon Signature - sweet sounding and powerful Class A amplifierGryphon S100 - amazing s...
Krell FPB 600 or 400cx?
Get a KRS series amplifier - KRS 100 or 200. They'll drive those with speakers with ease and sound better than any of the other Krell amps mentioned here.
Recommended Tube Amp for ML CLS I model
Appreciate all of the very informative replies. I'll check the db on the ML Club site.So far, it looks like an A-S MA-1, Rogue Zeus, ARC 130SE or 150 monos would be good candidates for the CLS 1. Others would probably be VTL 450 or Quicksilver's V4.
Recommended Tube Amp for ML CLS I model
Sparky,I have a tonne of experience with the IIz model and was able to make it sing with everything from Gryphon to Innersound to battery-powered Rowlands. For CLS I, though, it is clear that modestly powered tube amps should be ideal; unlike the I...
Recommended Tube Amp for ML CLS I model
Dover - are you referring to the Original CLS, II, IIa, or IIz? I know the IIa was a bear to drive, due to it's very low impedance. The original CLS actually had a very high impedance above 1000 Hz, I believe. This made it ideal for tube amps. The...
Very Sad News: Jason Bloom of Apogee Is Dead
Here is an update on this sad situation.Apparently, Mr. Bloom fell in his NYC apartment on June 15, 2003 and died. I do not yet have info on what specifically caused his death. (Of course, Dr. Atkins also recently suffered a freak accident when he...
Interesting Results from Accuphase Hi-Rez DSP/DACs
Please "ADD" the following to my previous post:The overall effect on the speakers, in general, was the most interesting. The CLSs now played much louder, and seemed a little faster. The REL also seemed to go deeper, as it violently shook the room ...
Interesting Results from Accuphase Hi-Rez DSP/DACs
I was using a REL/CLS setup to test out the process, whilst I was restoring the Apogee speakers. The REL allows you to run it using it's own xover, or in bypass mode for situations like home theatre, where the signal has already been digitally spl...
Interesting Results from Accuphase Hi-Rez DSP/DACs
Tireguy,Thanks for the info. However, I can tell you that eventually everything WILL be done in the digital domain. There is simply too much to lose with an analog preamp and/or an analog xover. Analog xovers are a definate compromise in sound qual...
Need advice from OTL experts
I've lived with the Atma-Sphere OTL amps - outstanding products and high powered. I also had good experience with a Futterman-type OTL, called the Prodigy M1. I used both tube and ss preamps, and never had an issue.FWIW: Not everyone thinks that t...
Anybody using Wilsons or Soundlabs with Pass Labs?
The purpose of my post was not to "insult" the Pass Labs X600. I was mearly pointing out that the amplifier's bass performance (Sound Labs can hit 50 ohms or higher here!) is not acceptable. This includes playing the same recording on other speake...
Anybody using Wilsons or Soundlabs with Pass Labs?
Yes - I did. I tried a Pass Lab X600 with a pair of Sound Lab Auras (similar to Milenium series, but made of steel like Ultimate).I also got to compare the X600 with Krell KSA 300S and Atma-Sphere MA1 mkII.2 OTL tube amps. The results:Atma-Sphere h...
Need Maggie MG-2C help....
Uh, Danton. The MG-2C does NOT have any ribbons. It has two standard planar drivers. It has a pure 5 ohm load, with little deviation. Hence, it should be very easy to drive. You do not need any more power. However, there could be a problem with the s...
