Is anyone using viritual dynamics armorned wire? Brouch; two clarifications. 1. the 60 ft. of VD armmored wire was run through our attic from main panel to sub-main panel. 2. My sub-main panel is located on an exterior wall, so the 10/3 VD cryo treated wires from sub-main to outlets was run in p...
Is anyone using viritual dynamics armorned wire? Hi Brouch; I haven't been spending much time on A'Gon the last few months-- been learning digital photography.Yes, I used cryo VD armored cable between main and sub-main, and then used VD 10/3 cryo treated, but non-armored wire, from the sub-main ...
How many CD/LPs do you need? Matchstikman; an interesting question, and one I've often asked myself too. It seem that some/many audiophiles are into collecting music at least partly for the sake of the collection-- just as there are stamp and coin collectors etc. That's cool, ...
Do tube dampers really work? Like others above, I also use the Herbie Hal-Os in my pre-amp-- very nice improvement, and like Jswhitlock, I found the Hal-Os able to change the sound as they were moved up or down the tube. Mine worked best about 1/2 way down. Cheers. Craig.
New Buddy Guy - "Blues Singer" Clingman71; thanks for the notice-- I'm a Buddy Guy fan too. Cheers. Craig
Are You Satisfied? Buscis; Yes I am very satisfied. There's the "obsession thing" too-- at least in my case. I recently even down graded a bit (cost and size of amp(s)and my system is sounding excellent, and I have no plans to fiddle with it.I've been getting heavil...
Which is better? AES/EBU or coaxial? I've tried both and marginally prefer Cardas AES/EBU over Cardas Lightning coaxial. I think there is as much variation within cable type than there is between cable type. Cheers. Craig
What is everyone using for dedicated AC lines??? I just upgraded my ded. AC system using all Virtual Dynamics cryo treated wire, breakers, and Hubbell 5362 outlets. 10/4 BX from Main panel to sub-panel $3./ft. (actually 10/3 w/ ground), and then 10/3 (10/2 w/gnd) from sub panel to outlets. 30 am...
Suggestions for a monitor speaker I like the the ProAc ISc at under $2K, and the PSB Stratus Mini at about $1K-- both are mellow and easy to listen to for long sessions. Good Luck. Craig
CD and/or LP collections. Is it about the music? Nrchy; another way of approaching this question-- especially if money is an issue-- is to ask: Would you rather listen to 200 CDs/LPs on a $20,000. system or 2000 Cds/LPs on a $1000. system? Personally, I only have about 1200-1300 CDs (about $18,0...
Anyone still excited about HDCD ? HDCD was (is) just an improvement of standard Redbook CDs, and they play in regular CD players, but the player does need HDCD decoding circuitry to take advantage of it. It's not a competitor of either SACD or DVD-Audio.If Bill Gates bought the HD...
Every make a purchase you truly regret? .....bought a well respected 100+ wpc Stereophile class A tube amplifier and was totally disappointed with it-- deep but soft, boomy, bloated, uncontrolled bass, and soft, boring mids and highs-- sold it after 30 days, and happily went back to my ...
Best bang-for-buck purchase you have made? Without a doubt, for me it has to be having a McCormack DNA-0.5 amp upgraded by Steve McCormack (SMc Audio) to their Revision A-Gold. This amp will easily compete with amps in the the $5000.-$10,000. range, and total cost (assumming new purchase o...
Are two dedicated lines better than one? I have four 20 amp dedicated lines to four dedicated outlets and use every outlet. Ideally it would be nice to have a dedicated line for each piece of gear. Like others above, I agree it's important to keep digital gear separate from other compone...
What's more important; sound or brand name? Nrchy; I've enjoyed the thread and find much to agree with in the above posts. As to your Sony M9 speakers, several years ago (after the Stereophile review) I had them on my short list to consider for purchase, but could never find a place to audi... |
