Placing Instrument Separation of Large Ensembles in Recordings
@mahler123 I am using an ISO Regen that has been an asset to the digital front end of my stereo.

@pwerahera Alright, you don’t hear what I hear. But I have to wonder how much ear training you’ve invested in? And whether you grew up attending concert halls to hear large orchestras, vocal recitals, chamber groups? I am around professional music...

@bdp24 Thanks, is there a website URL for ARK recordings? I looked but I’m not finding what I think you’re referring to.  I have to expand a bit on my post. When I buy CD’s (yes I still prefer the archaic CD unless it’s a DSD download) I research ...

@onhwy61 What you’re saying makes the most sense. I’m just surprised that there is such a difference between how ensembles are mic’d and that recording engineers don’t recognize the lack of separation themselves.

@audphile1 Most of my files are from an SSD, local rather than streaming. I prefer Manic Moose to Roon where sound is concerned. Actually my point of comparison comes from live venues. Hearing music in a good sounding concert hall. This is where I...

@audphile1 I don't have warm components. The post should pertain to the inconsistencies regarding orchestral recordings. Some are great, some are poor and there's a lot in between.  Here's a list of my components; Ayre QB9 Twenty DAC. Bryston BDP ...
Phil Lesh
Last time I saw Phil Lesh was at ‘Fare Thee Well’ in Santa Clara. He made some announcements regarding his liver transplant and being an organ donor. As a musician, I can’t think of another electric bass player that played harmony and counterpoint...
better wood for a plinth
@lewm Similarly, the old practice of using a rubber profile between TT chassis and wood plinth is now frowned upon I assume you would include the Herbies isolating washers between chassis and plinth as well. Honestly, my plinth looks great and so...
better wood for a plinth
I built a tiger maple plinth for my table. I used Herbies washer between the plinth and the turntable chassis. The washers are in each corner. This combination works very well. I would recommend the washers, regardless of which type of wood you de...
Pianos
My fascination is with a number of pianos that were local to Eastern Europe. Long ago before the current war in Ukraine, I was spending some time in Odessa.  I saw pianos I had never heard of. My friend who I was staying with had a pre Soviet pian...
Pianos
When I was in college, I played on a fully upright Mason & Hamlin. It was a beautiful piano in every way. A friend of mine had a 1927 Weber grand. That's a great piano to own but the Weber name is now owned by Young Chang and in my opinion are...
New cartridge ideas...
I’m still modifying my turntable and I am focused on the EMT mono cartridge paired with a new Audiomods tonearm. I know, not your SME and you’re most likely not considering a mono cartridge but I just wanted to share my conceptual aesthetic.
Truly Stunning Vinyl Album
I also have that Heifetz/Impex record and I do have a mono cartridge. It's one of the best sounding mono records in my collection. As for remasters, Analogue Productions reissued a good number of the RCA Living Stereo three track recordings. I'd ...
HH Scott 350 fm tuner
@hifigeezer Good grief, this thread is nearly ten years old. Anyway, I'm able to connect a pair of RCA Monster Cables just fine. As for Radio Shack, they made some good things. They had a respectable turntable and a shortwave radio among others. T...
Best speaker brands for transient response
I believe the dynamic speakers that Steinway made were especially fast but they are most likely out of production. I have Quad 2905’s with newer 2912 panels. I’d recommend the Quad 2912’s depending on your musical preferences. For classical/art mu...
