Looking for a good system for my apartment. Any advise?
Except listening to many systems you can also read some reviews or listen to Youtube reviews. Here is Steve Guttenburgs recommendations for a sub $2500 system. I don't think it contained both streaming and LP so you will go up a bit in price.https...
Looking for a basic streamer without a DAC, preamp, storage and all that
If you don't want to tinker with a Raspberry Pi you can buy a ready-made one. I have a RPi with a HifiBerry hat and Volumio connected to a dac and it works great.Like Volumio Primo or Orchard. Or Projekt.https://youtu.be/zSYyudGfX6Ehttps://orchard...
Buying a DAC when you can't try it first
@bogbeat I think you should start a new thread.
Buying a DAC when you can't try it first
As others have said, try another dac connected to the Node 2.The Absolute Sound has recommended components in the latest issue, you can find some DACs to investigate. Or just ask in a new thread here about a good dac to add to your Node 2.Shiit us...
What is the best audiophile speaker for a tiny square room?
+1 @panzrwagnI also think Kii Three or Boenicke W5 would work great.
Basic technical question about digital source signals
You can actually see small steps in Stereophile's measurements of many dacs.Playing 24/96 gives much, much smaller steps if the source has the info and the dac has the resolution. Most dacs can only differentiate up to around 20 or 21 bits. 20/96 ...
A move from Harbeth to... Wilson?
As others have said, it sounds like a strange move. Take it if you want but try to listen to some other speakers also.If you want a change, maybe try another type of speaker? Like horns, planers or omnidirectional?MBL 121 might be worth trying.
Internet radio for Luddites
A Raspberry Pi with Volumio or similar might work if you are ok with using a mouse and connect it to a TV. Then you would not need a touch screen or smart phone. Just a thought. Cost is around $100 without the TV.
smaller speakers for critical listening?
I can't afford $7k speakers, otherwise I would lean towards Boenicke W5. They blow me away when I first heard them. I have heard them them again after that and they are special. Someone suggested Dutch & Dutch 8 and they are also good but I pr...
Amplifier upgrade advice under $2000
If you want one more brand to try you can look at Hegel. There are a number of good reviews for their integrated models and they have power amps too. I have only heard them briefly but then it was with B&W speakers meaning they should pair nic...
Who is still making CD transports?
Metronome and Kalista makes expensive but great transports. Way out of my price range but the Dreamplay cd with the Dreamplay Stream dac sounded great at a show. Uses a modified Philips mechanism.http://www.kalista.audio/en/collections/dreamplaycd/
In Search Of... Desktop All-In-One
Regarding FM I have a Raspberry Pi at home as a streamer and I noticed there were a lot of digital radio channels available. I use the Volumio software. You could combine this with the Sprout or some other amp. Maybe this could be enough? Also a RP...
Best 40 to 50k used speakers
@8th-note , I just saw a pair of used MBL 101 for only about $15k in Sweden. Might be a little older model but the price seems very good. And I agree that the MBL 101 are great speakers and probably a good buy used even for $35k.Otherwise I might l...
Versatile, non-fatiguing speakers for a small room under $1500 used or new: advice needed!
Here is an interesting option, assemble the speakers yourself to keep the cost down. Priced at £1500 which is over your limit (becuase the USD is falling) but might be worth considering. I have not heard them but is thinking that they might suit m...
~$15K floorstanders: opinions sought
I like both the looks and sound of Boenicke speakers. I think it W8 is below  $15k, even the W8SE. If you can find a used speaker you might get a W11 or W11SE. The W11SE+ is said to be even better but more expensive and newer which means it is pro...
