What’s the deal with high end CD transports not having the ability to program tracks!?
I've been listening to CDs since they stopped putting everything out on LP, and I have never once programmed a CD, though I can see how you'd miss the feature if you used it. The thing that got to me is that when everyone was manufacturing CD play...
Dust cover up or down?
I have a Sota Comet I bought used and the dust cover is more or less an afterthought, and looks like it, something they started making because there was a demand for it. There are holes for hinges in the back of the plinth, but it's clearly never ...

How do you arrange the order of your records?
My LP collection I divided into categories: Comedy/Spoken Word; Folk/Ethnic Music; Show Tunes/Original Cast/Soundtrack Albums; Classical; Jazz; Rock/Pop, all alphabetical within each section. From the start with my CD collection, I just lumped all...
Is it ok to stack LPs horizontally?
What you might try is go on Etsy and search for "vinyl storage". Perhaps a small footprint rack like the one below would be a solution.
Scam Alert
The thing to do when you receive a notice that makes you nervous is to not respond to the email, but to check your PayPal accounts and credit card accounts to see if anything unusual is happening, always going to information sources you know are g...
Can a great system make a mediocre recording sound good?
My speakers are better than headphones because, among other things, headphones don't have a subwoofer.
Can a great system make a mediocre recording sound good?
The trouble with this "it's not the system it's the room" argument is that the good recordings and the mediocre recordings are both being played in the same room. Moreover, it is the same room as my upgraded-from system. I fail to see what differe...
Can a great system make a mediocre recording sound good?
I have to come down strongly as a no on this one. A poor recording is a poor recording. The system can't put anything there that isn't there. It is my belief that the measure of analog is analog. That is you don't really see the value of analog so...
Does Anyone Buy Schiit for the Sake of Schiit?
If I can act as referee of my own thread, I think the result is that there are indeed people who do buy Schiit for the sake of Schiit. I think it would have been a little less obtuse of me to look at the price range of Schiit products. They make a...
Does Anyone Buy Schiit for the Sake of Schiit?
Now that I think of it, Tekton seems to be an example of a maker of relatively low-priced equipment that's bought for its own sake. Also selling directly.
Does Anyone Buy Schiit for the Sake of Schiit?
I think a number of people on this thread have imagined a chip on my shoulder that really isn't there. I would have thought that when I admitted that I didn't have enough direct experience of their products to make a judgment (i.e., two headphone ...
Does Anyone Buy Schiit for the Sake of Schiit?
When I spoke of workmanship and material I was thinking of discount store merchandise, not Schiit's products. It seems anyway that the voting here leans towards "good for the money".
Best double live vinyl?
Not a double and not remotely the best live album, but I was rather taken by the live album that was the second disc of Everybody's in Showbiz by the Kinks. Ray Davies is clearly plastered and the rest of the band isn't far behind, and there's jus...
