Your journey with lower-watt tube amps -- Can a kit be good enough?
looking at bottlehead, yes
ACTUAL MUSICAL SOUND VS. MEASUREMENTS
Beating up on "measurementalists" is one of this site's favorite hobbies. I agree that when that approach becomes dogmatic and myopic it is not worth reading. But they're also not worth responding to. So, I'm not aggravated by them.

@armstrod -- thanks for your advice. Good to try before sinking in that time and money! @dougthebiker -- Elekit! Thanks! @paradisecom -- thanks for the ank link @yaluaka -- thanks for the link to the other thread. I’d not seen it. I had a diff...
Your journey with lower-watt tube amps -- Can a kit be good enough?
Thanks for the comments. Had a busy day. Need to think about @atmasphere comments bc the speakers I currently own have been driven pretty nicely with an 8w Sun Valley amp in a room larger than mine. (24 x 15 x 8 approx.). That said, there may have...

Tube Amp, Preamp upgrades -- what did you do that improved your units?
FYI, the QS model is Mono 60. The upgrades: 2 Quicksilver White Caps (.27uf 400 VDC 1543R) were replaced with (a) a Mundorf 2uF 1000Vdc MCap® Supreme EVO SilverGold Black SESG and (b) a parallel “bypass” that added an Audience/Auricap cap (0.0...
To Fritz, Quicksilver, and all the exceptional makers trying to get the word out
@johnc5  I don't think that's would explain it. Maybe you should call Fritz. @whiteknee  I know only the Carreras and the Carbons. From talking to Fritz, I know he is really focusing on the Carbons. I have powered both with my XA-25 (no problem) ...
To Fritz, Quicksilver, and all the exceptional makers trying to get the word out
@johnc5 First, I owned the Carreras, too, and my listening impressions agree with yours. I didn’t keep them and I also sold a pair of Salks with that same tweeter. It is unforgiving. The Carbon 7’s also seemed a little brittle in the upper mid...

@yogiboy Thanks for the reference. Will take a look. Nice to be back. I was hitting social media overload and life was pushing all that stuff to the rear burner. If I'm on Agon, it means I have time to listen, which means that things are better. T...

@vthokie83 When these threads don’t spin into pissing contests, they are actually filled with well meaning people that just want to pass along what they have learned.....and have been invaluable in my re-education. I totally agree. That’s wha...

@corelli Did an extended comparison of Fritz with the Akitika GT-102 Z4 vs. the Pass Labs XA-25. There was no comparison -- with the Pass: bass tighter, greater clarity in the soundstage, wider soundstage, more presence. That said, the Akitika re...

@mattw73 I really like how you described it and would agree. Fritz’s speakers are not cheap but there’s no middleman and I feel like people are getting his 40 years of experience in this very evolved model. No one begrudges a good chef at a unique...

@corelli Need to try the Akitika. Will let you know.

@mesch Hi back to you! Hope you're well. @waytoomuchstuff    Very kind — thanks! @thecarpathian  "Question: If you could keep only one pair, between the two which one would you choose?" If it was my ONLY speaker -- probably the Ascend because ...

@decooney Thanks for the kind words. @ghasley Hello from your CO neighbor! @tksteingraber I like the way you phrased your praise. There is this weird, unassuming naturalness to the speakers, the experience of music "just happening to be in ...
