Lazarus Cascade Basic Preamp - What type of tubes? Absolutely DO NOT put 6DJ8 tubes in this preamp! It uses 4 12AX7 or equivilent(ecc83, 7025, 5751) I have this preamp and this info is direct from the owners manual.
Audiolab info needed Audiolab amps have received universally poor reviews in the US audiophile press when compared to other British names such as Creek, Naim, Arcam, Musical Fidelity. I was Unimpressed when I listened to it. Do yourself a favor and ckeck out these oth...
Advice from anyone with Tangent RS4 speakers? Well, I woud not be surprised if I am the only one that knows anything about these. They were made in England circa 79-81. They used drivers by Audax of France. An 8" bextrene woofer mid and the ubiquitous 1" soft dome tweeter that almost everybod...
best tubes for Audible Illusions M3a The tube of choice for this preamp is Amperex Bugleboy. Any Amperex 6DJ8/6922 will sound good. Mullards also sound good. Be sure you get NOS tested and matched as this pre does not like any microphonics from the installed tubes. None of the curren...
Luxman 441 vs. Technics SL-1200mk2 as first TT? The Luxman SME combo is by far the best setup, BUT the SME Series III arm is a very specialized unit. It is very low mass and will work only with high compliance cartridges like the Shure V15mxr or the grados. It will NOT work well with most movin...
To Linn and Theta listeners... I worked for a Linn dealer up until a couple of years ago so I know their stuff pretty well. You are describing pretty accurately what I heard from the Ikemi. Frankly I think all the Linn cd players are overpriced underachievers. You might say the...
B&K vs Adcom – opinions please Funny thing about opinions, everybody has one. I too have owned all the above amps and completely disagree with the previous posts. The adcoms are all highly mediocre sounding amps with flat 2 dimensional presentations and somewhat dry and brittle...
Has anyone heard of MCS 3245 amplifier? MCS was the house brand for J C Penney stores back when they used to sell electronics. They quite in 1987. It was probably made by Technics and is comparable to any other Japanese dreck from that period.
What do you think of this system? The Linn Genki is an overpriced underachiever. My Adcom GDA-600 DAC completely smoked it. Not even close. Then again the Adcom embarasses many higher priced players. Typical used price $175-225.
Cheap Old Preamps The cream of the crop in this price range is the NAD 1020. Also look for the NAD 1155. You won't find a Linn for $100. The Apt/Holman is a truly excellent preamp but you would be lucky to get one for $100. More likely $150. They show up on ebay al...
Review: NAD 3020 Receiver The NAD 3020 is an integrated amplifier, not a receiver. The receiver is the 7020. Having owned several of each over the years I can say that there is NOTHING out there for the same price that even comes close to these guys for sheer musical enjoy...
Deteriorating speakers -- Class A today, C Tomorr I own a pair of speakers made around 1979 and other than replacing the foam surrounds they are all original. I don't know what they sounded like in 79 but they sound superb in 2002.
Is this the normal way business is handled? Just because someone offers to buy something from you doesn't make you obligated to sell it to them, whether they are the first offer or the 50th is irrelevent. On the other hand, if you agree to sell it to them then you are ethically bound to, ev...
Need inexpensive amp help and questions on Hype First of all, in your price range, if you want top performance you have to go used. You will get at least twice the bang for the buck. Here is a great example and a solid recommendation. The Hafler Transnova 9300 amp and the Adcom GFP 565 preamp.T...
"Media Mail"cheap but faulty system? I think you guys are being a little hard on media mail. I have sent over 700 parcels by media mail and have gotten by and large very good results. Average delivery time is about a week but it is dependent on the distance traveled. I've had many it... |
