Insanely Expensive....and Worth Every Penny
I nominate the Tron Syren pre-amp. I use it with my Avantgarde Duo's and Audiopax Model 88s. It is hands down the most transformative investment i have made in audio. What has made it such a worthwhile investment is that it optimizes the rest of m...
Tube amps and iPods
if (a) your music is saved using apple lossless and (b) you take the data from the line out of the ipod rather than earphone jack, you have the start of a HDD-based digital source that is at least in the same ball park as other HDD systems. i am c...
B&W 805 to 804
i upgraded from 805S to 804S about a year ago for use in a smaller room than yours, seated at a closer distance than you describe. i agree with earlier comments that the 804S perform very well even in a "near-field" environment. playing at low lev...
Recommended Pressing of Sgt Pepper's
hervac: no apologies necessary. your rant is infinitely more informative than uranium's intemperate remarks. i am awaiting delivery of a UK first mono pressing on the strength of earlier recommendations in this thread.uranium: as soon as i get my ...
Recommended Pressing of Sgt Pepper's
Uranium: In fact, Lennon's endorsement of mono version over the stereo version is widely quoted. In fact, the Wikipedia article on Sgt Pepper's -- which you seem to think is authoritative (at least when it supports your point) -- notes, as i did p...
Westone UM2 earphones
i tried the Ety's, Shures, and UEs before finding happiness with the Westone UM2s. Without doubt the smoothest and leas fatiguing of the high-end choices. I ultimately upgraded to the Westone ES3 (custom molds and 3-way driver). Although this was ...
The most missed obvious tweak of all
i recently had my ears cleaned and out came several magic pebbles. I strategically placed them in my listening room and guess what: the highs were extended, the mids more emotional, involving, and organic, and the bass was tighther with noticeably...
Recommended Pressing of Sgt Pepper's
Interesting take Uranium. Nevertheless, here's what the liner notes of the re-issued mono version have to say (FWIW):"The only real version of Sgt. Pepper is the mono version," says former Beatles sound engineer Richard Lush. "There are all sorts ...
Another article re CD sales
what concerns me is that, as CDs sales increasingly give way to downloaded music, the ability to get audiophile-quality recordings of new music is disappearing. i have not found a source for downloading uncompressed/lossless mainstream music (new ...

thanks all.
macmini spdif out vs. usb
i am not familiar with the benchmark usb dac, but it would have to be VERY good to beat a wavelength cosecant. i just got the cosecant and i could not be happier. in any case, the USB dac is certainly the way to go.
How fair is this?
putting aside the question of fairness, i wonder who would be dumb enough to bid in the auction that ends first. in effect, the high bid in the auction ending first is merely the "stalking horse" bid for the auction ending second -- i.e., it merel...
ASIO4ALL Crackles With Wavelength Audio Brick
I bought my cosecant from don better at don better audio in shaker heights, oh. super guy and an incredible selection of gear. BTW: Gordon's website has a link to an application called "Clicker" that would enable control of itunes on a PDA through...
Accustic Arts
This thread seems to be begging to be hijacked ...Tbg: I recently purchased a Wavelength Cosecant USB DAC. I reached the conclusion, as many around here have, that it no longer makes sense to continue investing in CDPs or CD transports given the d...
ASIO4ALL Crackles With Wavelength Audio Brick
jc51373: thanks for the advice. i just picked up a cosecant and was trying to use it with my vaio/asio4all/itunes/foobar. when it worked, the results were fantastic. but more often than not, i would need to reset the preferences in foobar or the s...
