Audible Illusions Tube Pre-Amp Hum- Help Diagnosing Thanks, Newbee. The one thing that is throwing my thinking off is that the hum (noise?) doesn't increase in volume, which is something I would otherwise expect to happen with a ground issue(?) The problem seemed to have begun on one channel, thou...
Turntable Upgrades Maintaining a 911 well is moderately expensive. At 400,000 miles, one would have had to do at least one, if not two, "top ends" at $4,000 apiece (unless one prefers oil pouring past the valve guides), not to mention 13 of the 15,000 mile checks at...
best possible indoor antenna Might not be quite in the same league with some of the more expensive antennea, but Rat Shack has an FM-only 70" outdoor antenna ($23!!)that may fit nicely in your attic. Because it's not that big, it's not that directional. (Generally, the larger...
Turntable Hum I had a situation where the clip was hanging by only aone or two strands of the arm wire. It happened to be a ground wire and there was a terrific hum. After re-soldering the clip to the wire, the hum disappeared. Check all the tonearm wire connec...
confused??? Very simple, TTRHP. You already have at least something that works- why spend more money something that you really don't want? Take a deep breath, wait a couple months while you save $300 by not buying other things you also don't want (audio and o...
what preamp to use As I recall, some were reporting great results using TWO battery powered Rat Shack phono pre's- one for each channel. Maybe start with one and add the second later if budget is tight.RegardsJim
reel to reel help Matt- Can't say I know much about them, but a friend has a Tandberg 10X (purportedly one of the finer decks around) for sale. I'm sure the owner's manual lists the features, which you could use as reference even if you're not interested in that pa...
Please Help My TT is acting like a tuner Just a thought as I don't know and haven't tried it- I there some way to put some kind of shielding over the existing cable and grounding it? Rich, I haven't re-cabled a Rega, but have done a couple other makes and it was pretty easy, even for a g...
Well Tempered reference motor vibration excessive? I, too, wasn't impressed with the WT motor on my Classic model. Switched it out with an OL DC motor. Seems to be quite an improvement- quieter, better bass, more detail.RegardsJim
Turntable plays 33.5 Lps very slow Get a new belt and don't ever put any kind of powder on it. Occasionally clean it, the pulley and the edge of the platter with isopropyl alcohol.Let us know how it works out for you.RegardsJim
Turntable plays 33.5 Lps very slow Is this something that just started recently? What table? Does the belt slip? Does the motor bog down? have you re-lubed the shaft? How old is the table? More details!Jim
Miles Davis CD first, now on LP If 'Hi-Fi' says it's "far superior", I'd say it's worth giving it a shot if that's what you're interested in as there are pretty solid reasons why digitally recordings might sound better on vinyl playback than on CD. You seem to trust the reviewer...
Who will survive? One last table til I die. C'mon, Herman, Mercedes capacity for coolant can be up to a quart more than BMW and the extra weight adversely effects acceleration, braking and handling. Therefore, the BMW must perform much better. If you likes the cars, you must likes the BMW b...
Miles Davis CD first, now on LP What's on a digital recording master is not really what ends up on the CD you buy in the store. Check out this thread for a discussion on the topic. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1099603622&openusid&zzAlbertporter&4...
