Which is REALLY the best Conrad Johnson Preamp Great thread indeed.I keep going back and forth between my ET5 and Premier 16LS2. The Premier is indeed a guilty pleasure. Such gorgeous presentation but definitely some euphoric expansion and injected lushness going on. ET5 is closer to neutra...

Vacuum tube ! And Warnings eBay is a marketplace, a good one, with information about sellers and feedback. Bad sellers don’t last long there. Sellers selling tubes are like any other sellers, they are subject to the discipline and the systems in that marketplace.Buying tube...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions? To me tube gear gives a great sense of tactility space and humanity to the sound. More natural more relaxed more spacious. But usually at the expense of some background noise, ultimate bass control and very high volumes. Obviously uber expensive t...
Perfect speakers for audio Research Classic 30 MarioWhen I read you writing the Classic 30 driving the ProAcs were 'tense' I thought you meant too sizzly and strident, not too bassy and slow. I misunderstood but no problem.Given the actual problem you have I would definitely retube the amp fi...
Perfect speakers for audio Research Classic 30 I have ProAc D30R’s driven by various nice ARC tube amps of roughly the same vintage as your Classic 30. (My amps are VT60, VT50, V70). I run a nice REL subwoofer to augment the low end. Listen to jazz and vocals mostly. The sound is wonderful. Sa...
Looking to upgrade floorstander speakers. @routeman21 Correct the dual woofer D48 would be too much for your room. D30 series more appropriate.
If I can't afford a new Conrad Johnson pre amp... Agree with what is written above. There are used CJ tube pre's out there at affordable prices. Older ones are more tubey sounding, newer ones more extended more transparent but still give you the tube magic in the midrange and spatial cues.
amp for vandersteens Second the post above - Audio Research tube amp should be strongly considered. Buy the best newest one you can afford. Older ones are fine too if you are on a tight budget. Vandy's need a little 'waking up' in my experience as they are voiced o...
Proac Tablette - which version is best at imaging? I wouldn’t say earlier versions of the Tablette are brighter. Rather, the older tweeters were somewhat less forgiving of anything less than a pure signal. Solid state/digital artifacts would not be softened/rounded by the older uber transparent Sc...
Looking to upgrade floorstander speakers. ProAc floor standers should also be considered. Or their bookshelf models with an excellent sub like a REL.
New cartridge and/or tonearm for a Delphi Mk1 i recently bought a refurbished delphi mk1 with an origin live modded rega rb300 arm (with solid aluminum arm board insert), and the sound is really wonderful. incredibly natural yet incisive and rhythmic... much more organic sounding than my sign...

Mono recordings - two questions... Thanks for the recommendations... especially Tablejockey and Folkfreak :). Yes I fully realize modern day artists would never be recorded in mono. I am simply seeking recommendations from the ’golden age of mono’ in the musical genres (jazz, voca... |
