When Was The Audio Golden Age?
Modern analog equipment based on old design. Great selection of cartridges, tubes, and passive speakers available today.
Leaving tube amps on.
Once I turn mine on for the day, it stays on until I’m done for the day; so it’s usually on for 8-10 hours even if I’m only listening for 4-6 hours.
Living With A Class A Tube Amp
I use a push pull with a quad of KT88 tubes; it consumes about 2-300 W and has an output of about 35 wpc. I definitely generates some heat. The tubes themselves are like exposed light bulbs. The majority of the heat seems to come from the transfor...
Power cords: does length matter?
Seems like just adjusting the tube bias based on whatever voltage you end up with is the easy answer. The line power goes through an input transformer and a rectifier before it’s actually used. I assume solid state amps do something analogous?
Why even bother?
I’ve pretty much decided that buying used equipment from private parties is more trouble than it’s worth.
Dedicated mains supply unexpected result
If we are talking about a tube amp, check/reset the bias.
New expensive power cord for amp and no change in sound?
I assume we are talking about a solid state amp? I could see a power cord making a significant difference only if the original was inadequate. I would spend money on interconnects and speaker cables first.
Picture Discs
Yup, I own two, they are both hanging on my wall.
Going Tubing
Currently using an Icon tube phono amp with an Icon integrated tube amp (quad KT88). Very good for the price.
