what is the problem with too much tracking force?
Yes, Lyra's recommendation is 1.70 - 1.80 grams. Yes, this is a rather tight range compared to other cartridges. The tracking range on my Transfiguration Phoenix S is 1.7 - 2.2 grams with a 2.0 grams recommended. 5 times the range of your Lyra.Firs...
What's going on with the audio market?
+1 macrojack, very well written post. I concur on all fronts.I can no longer even see the carrot, and at one point in time, I had several carrots, not too long ago either (8-10 years ago).As Bob Dylan said: The Times They Are A Changinhttps://www....
Why are so many companies like harbeth making old speakers designs and charging thousends?
But why charge twice as much or more then what it costs to manufacture it. Twice as much? In general, manufacturing costs are about 20% of the list price. Usually 20% for manufacturing, 20% for R&D, 20% for Advertising/Marketing, and 40% fo...
HESITANT with NEW member sellers
I agree with yogiboy.I have experience, and have even had problems with older sellers. Audiogon and PayPal themselves will provide no assistance, outside of Audiogon will cancel the sellers account. That doesn't get you any money back though.Your ...
Negotiating when buying demo and used speakers from a dealer
A lot of the negotiating depends on how desperate the seller or buyer is to sell or buy. Right now, it's a buyer's market, which means that sellers are really struggling. This is good for buyers, but bad for sellers. Now, if you, as a buyer, fall i...
What's going on with the audio market?
Interesting perspective merrillaudio, that is a different view from where I see it.I have to question your point number 2, as I see "better" as subjective, faster I can agree with, though this isn't necessarily always a good thing, but cheaper? I ...
No mention of Audio Research in Absolute Sound
What a tragedy!!! What is the world coming to???!!!
Your single favorite component
Just like the OP, I don't believe I can name a single favorite component. I have had a few favorites over the last few decades.I would say my favorite CURRENT component is my VAC 160i SE integrated amplifier.
ASSEMBLED IN CHINA
IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH A COMPANY'S MANUFACTURING METHODS, DO NOT SUPPORT THAT COMPANY.THAT IS HOW YOU MAKE A STATEMENT, WITH YOUR WALLET.
Seems I'm really done!
I’ve actually found one system can PERFORM best with all types of music in regards to always delivering all the goods in most any recording in a musical way all the time. You are very fortunate Mapman.
Seems I'm really done!
Charles,My specific audio goal is to make the music as enjoyable as possible to me, within my constraints of budget and room parameters. Obviously many factors figure into designing a well organized system, and many of us have certain restrictions...
Seems I'm really done!
If genuinely happy  why the boredom rather than continued happiness with a  well conceived system? Good question Charles. I don't know if boredom is the correct word. I know myself, and over the decades I have found that I can remain happy for a...
Audio Forums, On-line Store Fronts, and the Art-of-Deception
I think the 'super' shills are fairly obvious to spot. You will note that 428 of their 456 posts on Audiogon are on one thread dedicated to Brand X. Where Brand X is the best thing in the Universe, and music never existed before Brand X came along...
Seems I'm really done!
I do think after an audiophile has a speaker, amp, front end, and room acoustics picked, the audiophile can then make or break those choices with cables, fuses, and A/C outlets. David, I totally agree with you on this point. I have tried a few ...
Seems I'm really done!
@zavato, Congrats! I have been there myself on several occasions. Hopefully you have a better run of success staying there than I have. Having my system dialed in perfectly many times doesn't stop me from making changes, often screwing things up a...
