Best value Set amp for under $1500 used is ok.
This turns out to be an excellent guide:
Best value Set amp for under $1500 used is ok.
I spent the day watching reviews and the 800i gets a good rap as does the 300R too. Outside of budget…great value etc.

Thanks to all who suggested the Willsenton and other suggestions. I will certainly do some more research. @dekay I couldn't edit the post to correct the LS10 reference. Actually the power amp is an ARC D240 MkII. I will read that post you've link...
Noah Schumacher and my Marantz amplifiers
My understanding is that this guy is still on the run, anyone have any updates?
What do you like and dislike about vintage Western Electric cables?
I was told this is WE wire, its' properties are that its one of the two best speakers cables I've got. More of everything, soundstage, transparency, range... WE Speaker cables 1 WE speaker cables 2
Qobuz Hi-Rez Not Necessarily the Best Sound
On another related experience I have sat comparing Qobuz and Tidal highest res editions, and there are easily audible differences especially in the bass and mid range. Qobuz IME sounds like a forward mid section with muddied bass. Tidal has more t...
Is it worth upgrading a CD player?
Until I upgraded to an Audio Research Ref CD9 I had no real appreciation of the influence of source, internal DAC, tube output stage, etc has on the performance of a CD player. This unit is not the DAC of choice for all my digital listening. And t...
Packing & Shipping Large/Heavy Speakers
Just to add my experience here. Oddly from what has been said here, we used FedEx to pack and ship an amp. They did not pack it at all, just took the box we gave them and shipped it. The amp flew around inside the box and of course broke. It was c...
What should be mandatory in every professional published review-
Where's the OP gone? What should every poster here, if they were professional, do? There's a myriad of preferences and likes/dislikes, just as in any marketplace, but @mikelavigne summed it up very nicely. You choose to read what you are looking f...
System that sounds so real it is easy to mistaken it is not live
There has been some discussion about the new Magnapan LRS+ and matching full range Subwoofer as closely sounding like live music, presented at the Montreal HiFi Show. I haven’t heard but would certainly like to. Discuss Maggie LRS+ & matching...
To couple, or not to couple, that is the question
Funny I watched a video where the guy measured the speaker resonances using three different isolation methods on YouTube. I’ll see if I can find it and post it here. Here’s Credo Audio Switzerland demo of coupling vs de coupling:  Speaker coupli...
Time-Phase-Alignment- Point Source-Classical Musicians
I wonder if you can measure time alignment outside of an anechoic chamber? Certainly don’t see ASR or others reporting any measurements if this is supposed to be important. I also observe many box speakers claiming time alignment in their design i...
Streamer/DAC - Where is the value?
@anotherbob you inspired me to explore the Tidal vs Qobuz question. My brief listening notes with a couple of Stan Getz tracks, Girl from Ipanema and Desafinado: Qobuz: slightly higher volume needs equalizing with Tidal. Sound image seems more s...
Considering Towers in the $3000 range
Owned the Elac 247.2 that are soundstage gems because of their Jet tweeters and made in Germany quality and piano finish. Just fill the living room with lovely sound and music. Owned both MS Gold 50 & 100’s that their quality speaks to the bra...
Primaluna or not Primaluna
I owned the PrimaLuna integrated using 6550 tubes and it was reliable and sounded good with my Elac 247.2 speakers. When I retrieved my Audio Research solid state D240 MKII I sold the PL. I found the PL a fuss free amp that is auto biased and whil...
