Things we cannot be bothered by anymore I’m done going to see & hear great musicians in even moderate sized venues whose sound gets ruined by big line array speaker systems digitally amplified. Most of the beautiful nuance, detail, tone etc. of their fine skills played on great inst...
How can they not effect the sound This sounds a bit weird but I’ve seen it done easily & successfully for a dented in soft dome Morel tweeter: simply use your mouth barely touching the tweeter & suck in like your drinking from a straw. Instant fix & sounded identical ...
Got Innuous, now a DAC I have an Innuos Zenith & had a Border Patrol which was very nice & musical if not the most detailed & refined as better ones. I tried a few including the latest PS Audio Direct Steam which was quite good in some ways but was strangely...
Pass INT-25, split decision and maybe option? Might want to check out the Roger’s High Fidelity 65 V - 2 tube integrated. Superior build quality, lifetime warranty & sounds great if powerful enough for you.
Linn LP12 turntable If the linn sounds very good on a good system, you know it’s capable of doing so which is all that matters. Any system is only as good as it’s source.
What has been a favourite moment in Audio? I saw two very funny things in an audio store in about 1980 in Cambridge, MA where my brother worked. The NAD 3020 Integrated amp was the new “hot” thing in very affordable & good sounding amp but had limited power & quality/ reliability i...
Linn LP12 turntable I’ve heard many fine systems from 1979 to fairly recently that had a Linn . I doubt you could do better sonically for 2 to 3 times the cost even used. Listen to it on a good system in the store & see.
Favorite scream in rock? How about Johnny Winter on Muddy Water’s Hard Again Album? Mannish Boy cut & others. Turn that up loud on a good, powerful system & you’ve got some real blues fun!
Some thoughts on dust covers The generally larger physical size & often non symmetrical overall shape w/ outboard motors or arm boards of the better turntables necessitates that dust covers are not in play when the table is in use. That said, there’s likely a reason thes...
… "And the government shall be upon his shoulders" Wrong forum but who truly thinks we have separation of Church & State? The repeal of Roe V Wade is proof we do not.. The Catholic Church owning half of Boston & pays no taxes is another one….
What Speaker Cables Taught Me About Audiophiles If you think about it, other than a live performance of symphonic music in a good hall w/ good seats, when do you actually experience layers of depth in live music? I have been fortunate enough to attend Symphony Hall in Boston for BSO concerts ( ...
Magico - Wide vs. Narrow If I recall correctly, the Snells had an overall bigger soundstage w/ a wider sweet spot but the Proacs had better image specificity & depth. To be fare though, the room I had the Snells in before I switched to the Proac did not allow me to pu...
Magico - Wide vs. Narrow I owned & really enjoyed the Snell A- III’s back in the earlier 80’s & they were excellent in many ways. Amongst many other things, they used only average quality ( for the day) drivers that they carefully individually tested to ensure ver...
Is the microwave the perfect model for audio marketting? It’s interesting to note that most high end audio equipment, other than newer combo preamp, streamer , DAC offerings is generally very simple & easy to use albeit may require some patience & tweaking to sound their best. Wrong forum bu...
Can you recommend Jazz for some one that doesn't like Jazz? I found years ago that big band jazz is pretty easy to enjoy & “ understand “ for someone unfamiliar w/ much of jazz as I was. It’s generally more structured w/ less improvisation. stuartK’s explanation of jazz is excellent & it may sound... |
