Is the idea of audiophile listening a dying concept as boomers die off? Old discussion. High end has been called dead since soon after it began. But just like you can buy a Hyundai or a Bentley, you can still buy Insignias or Magicos. High end lives.
Sweet Sounding DAC Another Border Patrol fan. You wanted great sound and a small size, the BP gives you both. I heard it at Capitol Audiofest and stopped my search. Why spend more time auditioning when you could simply be listening to good music well-reproduced? Goo...

What is the VERY BEST CD album you've ever heard? Spyboy, Emmy Lou Harris. You're there. Hard to find, out of print before the vinyl resurgence.
My first tube integrated: which one to get? Dan Wright at Modwright is about to release an Analog Bridge. Keep your stuff and add this. https://parttimeaudiophile.com/2022/08/07/analog-bridge-from-modwright-paf-2022/ Sent from my iPhone

Need a DAC Recommendation. Border Patrol SE. Caused some controversy when it was reviewed. Why? Because it sounds great. Yup. That was controversial. In your price range new I believe and if not, just skip the SE part. Gary Dews makes excellent stuff.
You mean someone buys this stuff? My wife's response when I showed her a pic of the speakers ... "I didn’t realize you were running the sound system to the garage. Is there room?"
I had a few drinks and bought some speakers, I've now sobered up Vin Schweikert once told me to break them in by placing them side by side, turning them toward each other very close, reversing the connections to be out of phase, covering them with a quilt or blanket, and blasting a loud CD (or radio) for a few ...
In search for speakers of "natural" sound I don’t see any mentions of speaker placement ... you can get a lot more natural sound if those Harbeths are not jammed against a wall with a bunch of gear in between them. |
