Review: Pure Fidelity Harmony Turntable
I’ve had my Pure Fidelity Harmony for about 3 weeks now, and my early assessment is quite similar to yours, aside from the Maestro box criticisms and the occasional lack of PRaT on lesser produced records. In short I’m ecstatic with mine, but I wi...
Tube Rolling Advice for the Backert Labs Rhumba Extreme?
@hifiman5 and @milpai thanks for the updates! I'm glad to see this thread continue, as I think there are a lot of Rhythms and Rhumbas out there but they don't get talked about much in the forums. I've done a 12AU7 inventory recently given the even...
Tube Rolling Advice for the Backert Labs Rhumba Extreme?
This thread has been resurrected over the weekend so as the OP I figured I’d chime in with my progress over the past 3 years. I have owned a Rhythm 1.3 now since last August and it was a worthwhile upgrade to the Rhumba. I am no longer using the L...
Selecting Analog Gear Based on Music Preference?
@atmasphere  yes, agreed and thanks for the advice. I wasn't literally thinking in terms of "woah, that's a turntable built for chamber music!" but more along the lines of, "Hey, if I listen to a lot of music with heavy bass in it, maybe I should ...
Selecting Analog Gear Based on Music Preference?
Thanks for the thoughtful advice everyone.
Selecting Analog Gear Based on Music Preference?
@sbank thanks - yes maybe it’s different with analogue. I found the sound of, say the Chord TT2 for example, versus the Naim NDX2 affected the genre of music I preferred listening to. The Chord DAC, being quite detailed and dynamic, I found myself...
Thoughts/Experiences on Luxman Sound
You’re asking about gear that may be 30ish years old at this point - as someone else mentioned, during the Alpine ownership of the late 80s and early 90s and little in common with the Luxman of today. You will probably have better luck getting inf...
THE IRS HAS TAKEN MY TRANSACTIONS VIA PAYPAL AND IDENTIFIED THEM AS TAXABLE INCOME
Hey guys politics aside, this is a new thing in the past year where several STATES (not the IRS) passed laws greatly reducing the threshold for reportable 1099 income. The intent was to “legitimize” much of the gig economy that is paid off the boo...
What aspects of a tube amp/preamp contribute to "holographic" effect on soundstage?
@jjss49 I understand where you are coming from but I am talking about all things being equal - the speaker placement, the system, etc - just swapping out one tube amp for another and leaving everything else the same, one amp has a more holographic...
What aspects of a tube amp/preamp contribute to "holographic" effect on soundstage?
Thanks @atmasphere this all makes sense.I guess I hear on different recordings that the different settings sound better. Really record-dependent. Triode sounds better on a flatter and more balanced/produced record like a lot of the 80s/90s audioph...
Can the top end of a PrimaLuna Evo integrated be tamed w/tube rolling?
Just to follow up on this, I am currently running the Evo 300 with Mullard 12AU7s in the drive sockets and Tung Sol KT150s for power (in triode mode) and it is sounding fantastic. The Supernait 3 has found a new home and this combination of the Ev...
Can the top end of a PrimaLuna Evo integrated be tamed w/tube rolling?
Thanks for all the input everyone. I have swapped out the stock driver tubes for a pair of Mullard 12AU7/ECC82 and found that it has smoothed out the top end, and also centered the balance better which tells me maybe the stock 12AU7s may have had ...
Can the top end of a PrimaLuna Evo integrated be tamed w/tube rolling?
@erik_squires thanks I will do a search and see what I come up with. It would be an interesting read.
Can the top end of a PrimaLuna Evo integrated be tamed w/tube rolling?
@tvad yes and void the warranty too I would imagine.
Can the top end of a PrimaLuna Evo integrated be tamed w/tube rolling?
@tvad yes they are 6ohm speakers and I think I am getting best results with the 4ohm taps.
