Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
I posted this as a new thread, but thought it would be helpful here too. I've owned my Technics SP-10MK3 for several years now. During that time, 3 or 4 of the vintage MN6042 chips have failed in the control unit. My chips have failed altogether, ...
Who would buy a Boulder 3050 amplifier?
I've collected a full line of Boulder equipment over the last 16 years. I've find it incredibly realistic, neutral and gorgeous sounding when used with excellent cables and speakers. It is intensely detailed and musical without being harsh and wit...
A.J. Conti of Basis Audio has passed away.
This is a huge loss for analog turntable lovers. AJ was a brilliant designer who focused on precision and sound in the design of his his excellent turntables. I've owned several Debuts in the last twenty  five years or so and they have brought gre...
Why will no other turntable beat the EMT 927?
This thread has caused me to read all I can find about these EMT turntables, specifically the 927 and 930. Like Lewm, I doubt that I will ever have the opportunity to actually hear one, but they do have an extensive following around the world, so...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
"Rhapsodies", Ormandy / Philadelphia Orchestra. It was released back when there were millions of Thorens TD 124s out there to play it.  And that's exactly what I thought when I put it on my Thorens TD 124. Somehow the Columbia Six Eyes look better...
Beethoven 9th by Solti, best LP pressing ?
Also, the complete box set from US London records will drive you crazy because of the side breaks. For example, Symphony No 3 Eroica is on three sides. YMMV, but I've been disappointed in the sound quality of many Speakers Corner reissues. The Mob...
Beethoven 9th by Solti, best LP pressing ?
I have numerous pressings of this Solti 9th listed in descending order of quality: Mobile Fidelity "Original Master Recording", Musical Heritage Society DMM (Direct Metal Master), Decca as released to the British market, and lastly the London pres...
Does the ceiling fan affect the sound?
It absolutely affects the sound.  It's a type of flutter echo. Turn on the AC to get the room cool before you start your listening session. Turn off the AC, sit down and enjoy the music.
"Thriller": A great demo disc!
Two questions: first, what is the best sounding vinyl version of Thriller ever released, and second, what is the best sounding vinyl of Thriller that is currently available new?
Jimmy Fallon has a Mcintosh turntable
Yea, and there was a Sumiko Blue Point in that tonearm.
LONDON Decca, Tzar DST and similar cartridges
Thanks bdp24 - that's exactly what I was looking for. Great history of these cartridges.
LONDON Decca, Tzar DST and similar cartridges
Ct0517, I can't use my stereo system on the first without disrupting family life. I agree that would be better for turntables. Regarding Warren, I am not sure what his issues with my system are. Perhaps he isn't familiar with my turntables. Maybe ...
