Used McIntosh Amp or better new options out there? - Amplifier or Integrated @stereo5,I am speaking for myself and the 95% of former Mac owners who have moved on. Said for some vintage Luxman gear that was gifted to me in my early adulthood, Mac was the first piece of "expensive" gear I coveted and took the plunge with. I ...
Used McIntosh Amp or better new options out there? - Amplifier or Integrated 90% of this who long coveted those big blue meters, scratched that itch and moved on. Impressive as they are aesthetically, you will eventually do better sonically...I certainly did.
Pass labs x250.8 or Coda Continuum 8 I would argue the contrary. I have owned both the Pass XA60.8 and the XA160.8, and now have the Coda Model 16. Coda surpasses the Pass in all categories you mention, and is on par with Pass in customer service. Check Terry London's reviews of both...

Selecting Preamp for MC452 amp seeking most enjoyable experience possible in price range Referencing a few points listed prior: you are always going to on the audio merry-go-round until you consider a speaker change. Even as warm and syrupy as Mac gear tends to be, the harsh B&W sound will still prevail. Consider a pair of Focal S...
I really wanted to dislike D'Agostino Coda cheerleader here as well. Back in the day I had the Model 11(should never have sold it), and now the Model 16 has dutifully replaced my Pass mono blocks. A must audition!
Charging A Fee To Demo An Amplifier In A Brick & Mortar Store This guy is the worst, a disgrace to the local audio community. I walked in several years with a sack of cash intending to buy, and was immediately turned off by his attitude and approach to customer service. Take your business elsewhere! For thos...
Charging A Fee To Demo An Amplifier In A Brick & Mortar Store Sep-16-2020What is the inconvenience fee associated with an in-store demo...fully face masked, of course? These are packed and put away. Can you tell me what kind of system would you want it demonstrated with ? Please call the store...Probably $500...
Charging A Fee To Demo An Amplifier In A Brick & Mortar Store I know this outfit and the owner in particular. He attempted to charge me for a demo some years ago and I never retuned. Rude and unscrupulous he was in the brief interaction I had with him. Caveat emptor!
yet another tube preamp recommendation thread Yawn...you will have either of those two aforementioned pieces up for sale in no time. Look at how many PL owners who put their gear up for sale mention that they are not the original owner.
yet another tube preamp recommendation thread I second Aric Audio! I have the original Motherlode with a Coda Model 16, and I have put the brakes on the the constant hunt for sonic bliss!
30w class A amp for Joseph Audio perspective 2? Pass XA25 will suit your needs beautifully! Or get in touch with Aric at Aric Audio and he will build you a bespoke tube amp.
100W, 200W, or 300W? My recommendation for your foray into high(er) end audio: Go listen to a pair of similar sized Focal, Dynaudio, or even Harbeth, and pair it with a Luxman SS integrated. This will keep you satisfied, and sound a hell of a lot better, IMHO.
100W, 200W, or 300W? To be blunt, but not rude, the listening fatigue factor of B&W speakers, matched with the homogenized sound of Mac amplification, will find you back on a forum again in no time. Many of your audio peers, myself included, have gone down the pat...
What tube pre-amps pair well with Pass amps? I will agree on his ability to build some of the best solid state amplification afforded the audio community. However, I have had both the XP20 and XP30 in my system(paired with the 60.8's), and they are anemic and lifeless in offering. |
