Any Blu Ray players made in the USA?
Nguyen357 pretty much hit it on the head. I just haven't seen the BDX yet on the Arcam wesite. My understanding was that it would still be a few months in coming, and would probably be well over the $1k mark, since their regular DVD players easily...
Center Channel Frequency Response
Gee, it took a whole day for this thread to degenerate into juvenile baiting. Why I am not surprised?Fine, don't use spellcheckers since they can't prevent all errors. Don't use seatbelts either, as they can't prevent all injuries. Only audiophile...
Center Channel Frequency Response
Eldartford: Years ago I actually did do some research on speech intelligibility in high-noise environments, as I was developing a radio communications simulator for military application at the time. I just don't see the applicability of any of tha...
Center Channel Frequency Response
Thanks, guys. Makes sense to me to have as full-range a center speaker as funds and space permit. And, Kal, yeah -- ditto for "intelligible."Lou

Which speakers are higher efficiency?
MSRP on the Reference 3A Grand Veena is $8k, and on the Focal it's $11k. So if you say $4k - $6k I assume you're looking for a used pair. While I agree that in a smaller room, with the right sorts of music, 24W might be enough for those speakers (b...
Single vs Dual Subs
A-gon'r Kr4 has compared many of the available room correction devices (not sure about the SVS) in his work for Stereophile. You might want to drop him an e-mail.I did. Unfortunately, he's in the process of reviewing the SVS/Audyssey right now, so...
Single vs Dual Subs
1) Audyssey, SVS/Audyssey, Velodyne SMS allow parametric EQ below the x-over frequency. The benefit in seamless integration and smooth deep bass (i.e. "fixing your room")is amazing. If your pre/pre-pro/receiver doesn't have this feature, I'd budg...

Single vs Dual Subs
Yeah, it hit me while I was out with the wife and kids that I should just use the high-level connections and forget the .1 channel. I'm not a "purist" in that sense; I just want the sound to be well-integrated and, of course, get sufficiently low ...
Single vs Dual Subs
Thanks for all the responses. I was thinking about how the connections, should I go the 2 sub route. If I set the pre/pro to "no sub" and ran both front left and front right full-range, then couldn't I have both 2-channel and 5-channel covered and...
