Artists' lps that don't get the respect deserved thanks guys. i was never a huge h&o fan, mainly because of o's mustache, but the hall projects "sacred songs" and "exposure" (both with fripp) were pretty great--weirder and more exploratory than you would think.i'll toss out two more undeserv...
Artists' lps that don't get the respect deserved ghost, i would add hall/oates "along the red ledge", a sorta rock record that has some really excellent songs.likewise, chris isaak's pre-stardom debut "silvertone"; supposedly one of the worst-selling major label releases ever, but a very solid r...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report terry reid, superlungs--incredible 60s/70s era singer--sounds like the template for jeff buckley, while his songwriting reminds me somehow of amy winehouse. his later, more-acoustic stuff shows him to be an estimable guitarist as well. pretty obsc...
What happened to the "club atmosphere" of Audiogon? i would also keep the forum aspect separate from the commercial aspect. as for the forum, other than getting older and more cantankerous myself, i don't see much erosion--there's always been a lot of great, interesting folks and a significant mino...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report nice to see the bottle rockets get some love...a couple of overlooked lps i've heard of late:santana, caravanserai--much spacier/more ethereal than their earlier salsa/funk and thus as immediately engaging, but a great headphone listenquicksilver,...
Do you have a secret "guilty pleasure" recording? bryan adams, cuts like a knife. unambitious and unfashionable as hell, i know, but the guy does have a knack for the big hook and the songs stick with you whether you want 'em to or not
Should I have my Luxman R-115 repaired? i agree with willand, as i usually do--it's not worth fixing if it costs more than $150 or so. the real luxman collectibles are the earlier "suckface" models (rx101, rx102, etc.), which don't necessarily sound better, but are more sought-after and...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report bdp, i'm with you on her wide-eyed innocent look.i looked up jerry scheff's discography--he's on an astronomical number of classic pop records (ron sexsmith, crowded house, richard thompson). also mink deville, whose best-of is my pick for the week.
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report sam phillips, martinis and bikinis--i was always a little surprised she wasn't bigger--she's very musical. impeccable production, i assume by her ex-husband.bobby sutliff, allsorts--an oddball covers album by the more somber guy from the jangle-po...
Whats playing on your system today? one more holsapple reference, then i'll shut up forever---marty, you're probably onto golden palaminos "blast of silence"---for the unitiated it's a sorta supersession featuring among others, a very young matthew sweet and tbone burnett. the great...
Whats playing on your system today? re: peter holsapple--i forgot about the continental drifters (his project with the girl from the cowsills!). "vermillion" was the one i remember as being noteworty. as for chris stamey, i useta wear the hell out of "wonderful life", "it's alright ...
Whats playing on your system today? marty/ghost et al;peter holsapple in particular is one of the greatest under-recognized songwriters ever; cursed, unfortunately, by bad lungs--he's a non-singer. if you can, find his "out my way", a remarkably strong set of tunes which probably so...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report motors, dancing the night away. one of the great lost classics of the 80s--swelling, tight epic british rawk with that great lighter-lifting intro. i think cheap trick covered this.
Harman/Kardon Receiver i'm also a big fan of the hk x30 series and still own a 730 and 330, having also owned the 930 and 430 at various points. i've read that unlike everyone else, hk used very little negative feedback in their designs, which resulted in less interface...
Home Theatre AVR recommendations (Anthem, NAD vs Denon, pioneer, marantz) i agree that of your choices the anthem is a cut above, but if you do go with b&w, i'd look at rotel which is owned by the same company and is frequently paired/voiced with b&w |
