current state of vienna acoustics
I tend to be more simplistic. If you liked the sound f the speakers then it is likely you will like them now as long as the design is the same. Different gear will have some impact on the final sound as will your room vs. The store, but if you lik...
Why blind listening tests are flawed
Sciencecop - one explanation, that I have heard, that makes some sense to me for why upsampling can sound better is that the digital filters used in upsampling DACs are better and not because there is high resolution.
Why blind listening tests are flawed
One standard I have is if I could tell if a change had been made walking in blind. In a short a/b comparison I can tell a difference but I would be guessing if I came in and had to correctly identify the configuration. It would be a guess.
Why blind listening tests are flawed
Learsfool - Science may not have a full understanding of human hearing, but it isn't too difficult to perform test of the limits of human hearing. The limits vary among individuals, but not significantly among healthy people. I can't understand wh...
Sanders 10c/d + Magtech + tube preamp
If you have heard and like the sound of the full system from Roger, then why go a different direction? Use it for a while and see if there is anything you want to change/improve. It will all sound different in you room smells find out what it soun...

Larrybou - what you need to do after listening to cables for days at a time and then declaring a winner is to have someone else switch the losing cable back in without you knowing. If you notice a change then maybe you conclusion was valid and if ...
Mono Bridged Setup - cable ends not long enough?
Blue Jeans Cable would be a perfect source for a custom cable like this that would be affordable. Get their 10 awg, it is good quality stff.
Any suggestions -speaker stands for audioengine 5+
Are they outdoor speakers? I have some and wouldn't use them outside. I honestly can't remember if they have threaded holes in the bottom for stands, but I don't think so. Maybe a shelf with straps to hold them?
Sound quality of shared iTunes library wireless
To clarify, the digital files are being fed from the same computer to the DAC? If so, you should expect identical playback unless there is a wireless glitch in the sharing process in which case you may hear the music drop for a split second. What ...
Why blind listening tests are flawed
I think what you are describing is the process of using things other than how the gear actually sounds to form an opinion of how it sounds. Once you form your opinion you then look for justification to support your views. Scientifically, this is c...
Law of Accelerating Returns
Sounds_real_audio - the math depends on if the 5% improvement is relative to a perfect standard (100%) or the current level of performance (90%). The total in one case is 95% and in the other it is only 94.5%!
Law of Accelerating Returns
The article begins with a false premise that the cost of audio equipment is directly related to its quality. Part of the joy is finding products that are fantastic values. At the lower end of audiophile equipment I think finding an objective sonic...
Apple TV - 44.1 kHz output
By the way, I appreciate the reasoning behind a 24/96 DAC being superior. I have done a little reading about the digital filters, but it is mostly beyond my grasp.
Apple TV - 44.1 kHz output
Are there not any reclocking DACs on the market for similar money? It seems a little strange to put a $600 reclocker in front of a less expensive DAC.As curious as I am to play around with some of the PC audio upgrades, I was satisfied with my SAC...
Home Theater / HiFi Stereo - 2 in 1
It looks like your current Marantz has 2.1 channel preouts so I would suggest going with a stereo integrated with a home theater bypass. This would allow you to connect your audiophile approved source directly to the integrated and bypass the home...
