How can anyone afford this ?
If you're constantly having to sell gear that you've purchased you're buying things that you cannot afford. If your gear is worth enough to make a significant impact on your budget when selling then you're likely buying things that you cannot affor...
Do you do AV at your church or other group events?
I purchased some microphone cables from monoprice.com and they arrived last night. I got home extremely late so I only had time to cut the packaging and get them ready to deliver to the church tonight (was going for a practice anyways). They appea...
Best Audio Store Name?
Nuts About Hi Fi is my local store. I think it's a good description of what type of person it takes to purchase most of the gear they have in the store. Very friendly staff and are very happy to let you listen to just about anything you request.
So what is the best speaker you have ever owned?
This is a record, I believe. It took 27 responses before an answer was given stating that the answer is relative. I'm not saying that it isn't, just that it's rare for a discussion to go this long without it coming up.
So what is the best speaker you have ever owned?
My current Focal 836v speakers are by far the best that I have ever owned. They were a significant step up and might be considered my first step into the audiophile world. On the flip side, I have yet to hear another speaker in their price range t...
The best speaker you ever heard?
Are you saying that with Bose speakers it's not possible to tell the difference between analog and digital?
True Analog LPs versus Digital Recordings
Do the vinyl recordings have anything similar to the ADD, AAD, DDD that CDs do in the covers? I only have CDs and SACDs so I'm just taking a guess. If the do, you'd be looking for AAA I would think.
Will I hear a difference with these cables?
Jedinite24 - I have no idea what type of cable I'm useing because it came from the scrap bin at work. It's Cat5 with foil shielding so it should be a decent product. A week ago Monday I attempted to do an A/B comparison between my Cat5 based cable...
Do you do AV at your church or other group events?
That's a lot of great information to keep in mind. Thanks for the feedback on the equipment. For clarification, a normal AV setup at my church involves four microphones for singers and sometimes one or two guitars plugged into the system. It's real...
Do you do AV at your church or other group events?
Driver - Sounds like your church is far more advanced than mine. For giggles, here's the list of the main equipment that we have:MIDAS Venice 240 (soundboard)Alesis MidiVerb 4 (processor)EV Dx38 (processor)Europower EP2500 (stereo amplifiers x2, 1...
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
Another thought with a full range speaker is that if the speaker is capable of reproducing extrememly low tones (the same goes for the extreme high tones as well) then the vast majority of music doesn't require the speakers to work at the max capa...
finding the right speakers for my room + budget
Honestly, I can't imagine someone not being happy with a pair of Focal 816v speakers. They are a little above your state budget at retail prices, but you should give them a listen. My local store may have some for a reduced price in a discontinued...
Focal 27WX 11" Subwoofer Application
I would suspect the differences are mainly because home audio and car audio are designed for different things. If I understand it correctly, the small size of a car limits the bass extension so it would make sense that car audio speakers wouldn't ...
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
Lithojoe - Seeing the word "bloviate" reminded me of the excellent comic series:Non Sequitur Political Zoology Field Guidehttp://lawwreview.blogspot.com/2010/12/political-zoology-field-guide-tone-deaf.htmlI think this link will get you to the blov...
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
My Focal 836v speakers are rated for 40Hz to 28kHz +/- 3dB with the low frequency cut off at 33Hz. I have a test tone CD and verified that they would produce an audible tone at 28Hz with my Integra receiver, but would only do 30Hz with my Onkyo. H...
