CPI super platter vs. Classic aluminum platter
That's just so much BS. Of curse he can make a non-inverted bearing. He did so for many years. There are VPI tables made with non-inverted bearings that have been working perfectly for almost 40 years. Not to mention tables of other manufacturers....
CPI super platter vs. Classic aluminum platter
Interesting. Notwithstanding any possible theoretical advantages, I have never understood the practical advantages of inverting the bearing. Like many other changes, I wonder whether its main purpose is reducing production costs. The original non-i...
VPI, Graham, Koetsu advice please
I don't think the problem is with the platter, though shifting to an aluminum platter will change the sound. IIRC the Well Tempered has an acrylic platter and the VPI Mk iii has a combination platter with acrylic on top. So acrylic should not be t...
Evaluation of the Coincident Statement Phono Stage
"I recognized that tell-tell signature of a SUT in the chain."Can you expand on this please? How would you describe the signature of a SUT? Thanks.
Original VPI Aries vs VPI classic 3
I have an original, but updated TNT. If you have an original Aries, you have the acrylic-lead-aluminum platter. I would not change it for the current aluminum platter in any form. IMO, and that of many others, what you have is superior. I have two...
How effective is the ultrasonic V-8 lp cleaner?
Can someone tell us what the frequency in kHz of the V-8 is?Thanks.
High End cartridges and the built quality
Yes, at these prices there is no excuse, except audiophile tolerance.I have seen many microscopic pictures of Peter Ledermann's work at Soundsmith and they look a great deal more precise than the ones you show.
Why are records still warped?
I think most records are warped, more or less. Take a "non" warped record and observe a reflection of a light on its surface as it turns and you'll see. IMHO we should all use ring weights and center weights when our TT allows. Improves a lot of t...

Ring Clamps. What do you think?
I think a ring weight is great. I have a VPI and for many years I used a screw down clamp. The problem is that I always had to adjust the amount of pressure depending on the nature of any warp of a disk. Last year I switched to a TTWeights ring cl...
Classical Record Labels and Recording Engineers...
Wasn't there a second tape head reading the music ahead so that the spacing could be varied automatically? Or did that come later? In any event, the job was not done as well as it might have been as many Mercurys have music coming in very (I would...

VPI JMW 10
Trading it in seems like a nice option. I'd like to hear more about that. Runner, did they replace the whole thing or just the armwand? As far as upgrades there are several: the drop counter-weight, adding outriggers to the upper bearing, a new low...
Hurst motor rumble?
It's hard to figure out what is going on. But if you want a quieter motor, you can try the 300 rpm one. You can get it less expensively directly from Hurst (IIRC it's exactly what VPI uses) but you would have to get a new, larger, pulley from VPI.
cartridge install issue
All of the above plus increase the VTF to the highest in the cartridge's range, or even .1 gm higher. See if that helps. If all this fiddling doesn't restore the balance, conclude that this used cartridge is not properly balanced and if it continue...
