New Dedicated 20A Circuit Wiring Questions
@robes  Floating ground means disconnecting the AC line ground from the device. This assumes the device is being grounded by a unit attached to it, By floating the ground (this is what "Cheaters" are for) you are breaking the loop causing the hum....
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
@pindac Not really chemical reaction. Read about neurotransmitters and vestibular nucleus.
New Dedicated 20A Circuit Wiring Questions
You have a whole house surge protector, the Zerosurg is an unnecessary road block. You already have a "star" grounding situation at the power strip. The problems come when the signal wires pass ground from one piece of equipment to another, so you...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
@rauliruegas  Of course all multi driver speakers do not perform the same, but they are multi driver speakers nonetheless and separate the audio band which is noticeable as you walk up the speaker. One of the cool things about full range ESLs is t...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
I can sit on a wooden bench and listen to music. Here again I am going to disagree with Raul. Nobody in the store though the Denon sounded better than the Koetsu. Perhaps this was an example of groupthink. The cartridge did not last very long, pe...
Benchmark Media Systems. Right or wrong
@macg19  That is why it was a brave thing to do. However, if all manufacturers of great equipment would take this stance instead of keeping their mouths shut, scared of losing sales, there would not be near as much mythology and people would have ...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
@rauliruegas Perfect for you, but then that is all that counts.  The difference between 50 kHz and 100 kHz is one octave, an octave not a single one of us can hear, not to mention most loudspeakers can not reproduce. The Koetsu of the day sounded...
MC-MM-MI CARTRIDGES . DO YOU KNOW WHICH HAS BETTER QUALITY PERFORMANCE? REALLY?
@rauliruegas I can only talk about my experience and I do not have access to all those cartridges and never will.  A boron tube may have a frequency response to 120 kHz, but the best a stylus can do is about 70 kHz. The best my ears can do is 16 ...
Benchmark Media Systems. Right or wrong
@jnovak Correct. There is no such thing as one amp for all. Amps have to be matched to the loudspeaker.  @audphile1 If I blinded you you would never be able to tell the difference between most DACs. What recordings sound like in the studio can n...
Benchmark Media Systems. Right or wrong
@audphile1 Accuracy in electronics means conveying the original signal unchanged in any way except amplified. What musicians like in tube amps is the way they distort. The amp itself is a musical instrument. You like distortion and that is your bu...
Hagerman Piccolo Zero: New transimpedance head amp
@dover 10+ I think the better analogy would be a generator not a motor, but they are the same thing in reverse.  I have a Channel D Seta L Plus. It can be used in both voltage and transimpedance mode. The Atlas SL has more gain and sounds better ...
Worst Speakers Ever??
You have to spend serious money to get a really bad speaker. The worst speakers are the ones that cost a fortune and sound terrible. My two favorites are the Hill Plasmatronics and the Nearfield Pipe Dreams.  @garebear They are junk when brand ne...
For those familiar with Sonus Faber
YES
VPI Scoutmaster to HRX
@tablejockey 1++  It is only a different look. You need to stay away from unipivot arms. I suggest a Kuzma 4 Point 9 along with the Phoenix speed control. If you want to make a big leap in turntable performance and not looks the Sota Sapphire will...
Benchmark Media Systems. Right or wrong
When I see people trying one piece of electronics after another searching for a better sound it generally means they are not happy with their loudspeakers. You buy an amp that drives your chosen loudspeaker well. The rest of the electronics really...
