Tell us about your acoustic treatments
For the low frequencies, I've used mainly absorptive bass traps. When I looked into tuned traps (GIK Scopus traps), I thought they were too difficult, as you have to get the frequency exactly right, and if that frequency is > 100 Hz, the traps ...
Tell us about your acoustic treatments
For me, it was “wow, this completely transformed the low end and was more than worth every dollar spent.” It made more difference to the sound in my old room than spending 3x the money on speakers. And the new room, being well sealed and in the ba...

@kgveteran : I did measure decay time, but I haven’t done it for a while. The main improvement that bass traps give, IMO, is reduction of bass decay time.Dropbox link to early graph.

... WHAT POWER CORD(S) ARE PLAYING IN YOU SYSTEM TODAY?
I got these for my electrostatic speakers. I picked them because the color blends into the carpet.
Do we really need anything greater than 24/96? Opinions?
In recording and mastering, very possibly. For home reproduction, no.
Why does my old CD player sound so much better than my new streamer?
@fsgattuso : I read your post too quickly & neglected to look up the D2 until now. It is quite possible that a Muse Erato might have a better-sounding DAC than the D2. Kevin Halverson of Muse was some kind of digital genius (may still be, don...
Why does my old CD player sound so much better than my new streamer?
I owned some Muse gear many years ago. It was superb, even with the stock power cord ;-).I have not owned a Lumin, but I stream my own library and also Qobuz through an Auralic Aries G1. The sound of my own library streamed is first-rate, at least...
Sound Labs Wins!
I thought Bricasti’s room (with Tidal speakers) at AXPONA was one of the very best. They played real music, not audiophile demos; the room was set up with care and acoustic treatment; and the volume level was realistic, not earsplitting. Tonal bal...
Other Good High End Audio Forums
Audio Aficionado serves mostly (not entirely) the upper quartile of high-end audio. It is very congenial, with very little of the bloviating present in some other forums.Steve Hoffman Forums are by no means completely objectivist, but the particip...
What are the current "speaker trends" in your opinions?
The rise of active speakers with DSP has the promise of simpler systems that can have flatter in-room frequency response. When you compare what the Kef LS50 costs to the LS50W and what each offers, it's apparent that such integration also lowers c...
Ultimate Integrated amps
@erik_squires : Where do you live? I have the Anthem STR preamp (not the integrated) set up in Portland, OR, and you are welcome to come over for a listen.
Is the dynamic advantage of cones just distortion?
I think that distortion is one way that a component (speaker or electronics) might sound louder. And at least in the moderate price range, panel speakers to tend to have less distortion. On the first point, Robert E Greene said this in TAS in his r...
CD distortion through preamp
As I glanced through the manual, the function of the gain control was not crystal clear, by a long shot. I thought it said that the preamp would limit the signal above the "gain" chosen; i.e., that something with high output (like a CD player) sho...
Company loyalty- What has been your favorite?
Since I'm the customer, I would hope the manufacturer would be loyal to ME. I've already paid -- I don't owe them anything!Auralic has been loyal to customers, in offering great trade-in value to those who upgrade. Bryston has been, also, in offer...
