Which frequency to adjust if voices/mids give me a headache.
An all-too-common problem in recordings is vocal sibilance, typically cause by using the wrong microphone or having it placed too close to the singer's mouth -- we want to hear them sing, not examine their tonsils.  And, there are some singers who...
jitter
I suspect adjusting the DAC's buffer will fix your dropout problem, but I'm rather skeptical that the issue is "excessive jitter" from the streamer or recording.
jitter
No current DAC can remove jitter that was embedded in the file by the ADC when the recording was made. This is the same as trying to "fix" a recording where the wrong mics were used or poorly placed, or bad mixing, balance, EQ and other decisions ...
any current integrated amps in market have great dacs?
Check out Schiit's Ragnarok integrated amplifier. It has an option to include their R2R DAC card. I have that DAC in their Lyr 3 headphone/preamp and it is a very good DAC.
pop sound between tracks
Check to see if it only happens when you switch resolutions between songs.  I've never had an Aurender, but I know with some other DACs I've had that it is common to hear a brief click when the DAC has to switch between a CD quality track (16/44.1...
Rumors of CD Demise Exagerated? New Hegel
@tony1954 -- I think it's quite relevant to look at where things were in the past and how they've evolved. Today we have streaming as the primary way of listening to music. The music industry now gets 84% of its revenue from streaming. 82 million ...
Rumors of CD Demise Exagerated? New Hegel
There will be a market for CDs and LPs as long as at least a few companies continue making them, though it'll never be at the level it was in the past. 41 million LPs is a lot, but still no where remotely close to the nearly 350 million units sold...
All Pre 1970 Vintage speakers suck! Prove me wrong
The odd thing about the original post is that many of the most highly prized recordings in terms of sound quality are from the 1950s and 60s. Have always found it amazing that they were able to do such good work back then with such crappy equipmen...
Will the Topping E30 II support Tidal's FLAC streams?
I have one of the earlier Topping E30 DACs, along with several other DACs from Schiit & HiFiBerry, and they all work fine up to 192K/24 material (I use Qobuz.) The Topping will also do some DSD, though I don't bother with that format.
NewOnTech Dac07 - Any Users Out There?
A quick search showed this discussion over on Head-Fi: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/newontech-dac-07.969331/ I've not heard it and have no real interest in it, but Head-Fi is a good place for some interesting discussions.
Help, Frustrated with Horn output
This model looks like it has potentiometers to adjust the high frequency level. My first thought are that the pots are dirty or corroded. Try some contact cleaner on them and run them back and forth a number of times. If really bad, they may need ...
Digital input amp
This is easily summed up -- take sales and marketing literature with more than a grain of salt. Example -- cigarette companies once used medical doctors in their ads to promote the health benefits of their brand. Advertising execs will spare noth...
Hissing at idle through one amp but not another
@dhcod -- glad you found a solution! One thing about amps and preamps is that there are no universal standards regarding gain and sensitivity. This can make certain combinations of preamps & amps problematic, though the issue can usually be fi...
Hissing at idle through one amp but not another
How are you connecting the Lamm preamp -- via the direct in or one of the selectable inputs?  I looked at the specs for the Ayon and they don't say what the input sensitivity is. It could be that it is a mismatch for the Lamm.  If you are using di...
Digital input amp
DAC is the acronym for "digital to analog converter" Human cannot hear an unconverted digital signal as music.  It must be converted to analog. Therefore, if you are putting a digital signal into a device and getting an analog signal out of it, i...
