Enough is Enough
Well, if they told you, "Oh man, your system is fine. You don't need to help me send my kids to college by buying anything from me!", they might be telling the truth. But that isn't likely to happen.  I've come to the same conclusion watching all...
Bluesound icon vs Nad c700
Not out yet I think. But soon. Bluesound had to up their game because they were being eaten for lunch by lower cost options from WiiM and Cambridge, so they did. By all accounts, the new Node Nano, Node N132, and Node Icon are steps up in audio qu...
Why does USB feature so much in discussions about DACs when the newer HDMI seems better?
Good DACs take USB and galvanically isolate it from the input section, thus eliminating most of the electrical noise that it might otherwise carry, hence USB can (in all but the cheap stuff) be a very good input, even from terribly electrically no...
DAC shopping - Trying to sift through the Hype. Can I trust the reviews these days ??
As others have mentioned, LAIV has been having build quality issues lately. They are new, so might be going through growing pains, so buyer beware. Holo May and Cyan are "the" DACs every reviewer has loved. The Denafrips Pontus 15th is indeed (upo...
Bose buys McIntosh
@howardlee get it while you can and while you know it is "good". I kick myself every time I record concerts, wishing I had bought some AKG-C480B mics when I had the chance...
Bose buys McIntosh
@tkrtrb125 just that we’ve seen this movie before, and the ending isn’t pretty. The same thing happened to AKG, the originally Austrian brand that made studio quality microphones. Once they were sold, the brand name recognition was used to market ...
Bose buys McIntosh
Can't wait for all those McIntosh Bluetooth headphones and speakers at Best Buy for $29.95. Those will definitely be screaming "quality". Maybe they can put a green LED on them for branding purposes. Ugh.
Schiit Yggdrasil DAC, why did they change it ?
@decooney thanks for that input. Nice to know it (the Bifrost 2/64) isn't a "rolled off" dark sounding DAC. I'll take all that under consideration for its price point of under $1K. Other reviewers have mentioned that to "best" it, you do indeed ha...
Schiit Yggdrasil DAC, why did they change it ?
I'm considering the Bifrost 2/64. Do any of you have experience with it compared to the Yggy versions? Does it too sound "dark" similar to the Yggy LIM or would it be more neutral? I've heard good things about it, but not sure I want a DAC that is...
What is your favorite budget streamer?
In your $350 price range, I'd order both, the Bluesound Node 130 which as @coronado2 said, is on "special" now for $349 since it will soon be discontinued for the three new models of "Nodes" they have come out with, AND the Wiim Ultra. Test them o...
Recommendations for MM Phono ~ Tube or Solid State
Might want to check out Steve Guttenberg's experience with using SUTs.  Sounds (no pun intended) like an interesting pursuit. Have fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tAPAPmfscc&t=28s
Physical degradation of CD's
Just know that the "energy" of the laser reading the pits and spaces is nowhere near the energy that was used to create them. So, no, you can play a CD a million times and it will be just as good as the first time. This was indeed one of the "sell...
Can't get Bluesound Node to connect to DAC via iFi iPurifier2 ?
Just to be clear, from the instructions for a Node N130, the USB "input" can indeed be used as an OUTPUT.  "USB OUTPUT (TYPE A) The NODE is capable of transferring digital audio (USB Audio 2.0) through to an external DAC via the USB Type-A slot. ...
Retirement System Finally Completed: Impression of the Mola Mola Tambaqui
Congratulations on your system and retirement. I hope you enjoy them both very much for a very long time.  It seems we have reached a point where DACs like the Tambaqui, and others at similar price points, have reached a pinnacle of sound quality ...
The Great DAC Mystery
I think most of us might agree with the OP that maybe there is a legitimate electrical engineering reason that some DACs sound better than others, but ultimately it is almost a fool’s errand to try figuring out which is the "best" DAC. I mean, yo...
