Does anyone listen to the radio anymore? On the weekends listening to my local NPR college radio station. Great broadcast quality on my circa 1982 analog tuner. Their broadcast sound quality far surpasses their 256 kbps AAC stream quality, on my system.
Things we cannot be bothered by anymore Not even getting a crappy remote with some "budget" components.
Enjoying the Original Music Streaming Format - Analog FM Stereo My favorite FM station also has a 256 kbps WAV stream that sounds awful. Whereas their OTA FM broadcast quality is first rate. I too listen to international streaming stations from Europe, the UK and Africa. That doesn't minimize my enjoyment of l...
Which inexpensive speaker cables... I can't remember the model number but I had good results in an HT setup using lower end bulk Audioquest cables. I terminated them with some decent quality spades/bananas from Parts Express.
Enjoying the Original Music Streaming Format - Analog FM Stereo The DJ's on some of the local stations still spin some vinyl, pops. clicks and all.
Does You Subwoofer Settings ?? I find myself tweaking my sub settings frequently. I don't use any measuring devices or room calibration, just adjust by ear. Annoying, but ultimately satisfying.
Warm sounding phono cartridge The "warmest" sounding cartridges that I have used have been Grados. The midrange presentation on a Grado is like syrup. I don't currently use a Grado because my speakers are a bit laid back and need cartridges with a bit more high end emphasis.
Audiophiles and De-cluttering -- your journey toward both psychic and sonic improvement My main methods of decluttering: 1. If it isn't plugged in and doing something, sell it, pass it to a family member, donate it. 2. I have finite space to store LP's and listen to my turntable about two hours a month. I find out of necessity that...
All-in-One units for retiring audiophile & music lovers in 2025, say what? My newest idea of an all in one is resto-modding an old Capehart console stereo from the 70's.
Chet Baker vs. Miles Davis Chet Baker, to me, was a pleasant crooner a good trumpet player. On the other hand, I believe Miles Davis was a musical pioneer who evolved with and at times defined what jazz was to become.
Integrated Amplifier Recommendations Needed If you want great synergy, also consider an Arcam SA 20 or the newer A 25. Arcams tend to be slightly laid back which works well with the more forward sounding JBL's. There's also a lot of digital inputs and a MM phono stage.
Any regrets in selling gear? I bought a Sony TA-4650 V FET Amp for $27 and sold it for $150. I needed the money at the time, but what an amazing sounding amp.
Reliability - what’s your experience been? My worst experience was a Denon DN 720P music streamer. I believe it was their first around 2012. After 5 years, they would not provide firmware updates for installed music platforms or the internet radio. On the other hand, I have a Velodyne SPL ...
The Allure of Vintage Audio Gear I've been in the audio sphere for over 50 years. I have equipment that is vintage, used and modern. The only vintage equipment that engages me are turntables. What I like about many, slightly elevated quality, vintage TT's is that they are freque...
Using a power strip in an old home that was build back in 1955 I also live in a 1955 era house. Same lack of grounding. My grounding issue was so bad, you could feel low current levels on the metal faceplates of components. My attempt at a solution was successful. I bought a $200 or so Panamax surge protect... |
