Pictures at an Exhibition
For performance, Richter's Sofia recording made in 1958 can't be beat - everybody agrees! Problem is the recording was live and is poor. None the less it is great and sets a standard. Another very good performance in much better audio is Pletnev's...
Somewhat of an oxymoron - speaker stands for the floor for bookshelf speakers.
Depends on the height of your speaker's tweeter (from the floor). Normally it will sound best when it is at ear level. Room and tweeter/speaker design might accommodate a slight deviation. For normal sized monitors we're usually talking about some...
Somewhat of an oxymoron - speaker stands for the floor for bookshelf speakers.
I sort of agree with ghdprentice. When I set up a pair of 'bookshelves' on stands I used some 24" high steel stands w/4 fillable posts and attached the speakers to the stands using a generous amount of Blue Tac. In order to counterbalance the spea...
Speaker Cable Recommendation
"Not a great room". It seems counter intuitive to me that you would want to spend up to $1000 to counterbalance the room problems, especially when expensive cables tend to be neutral and likely to expose problems in you room/system. In your place,...
Which frequency to adjust if voices/mids give me a headache.
To answer your question, if I had an equalizer of the 10 band type, I’d lower the slider in the 1500/1600 hz range 3db. WAG for sure! I know nothing about Dirac.
Speakers versus Balance vs Amplifier
OP. FWIW. I misread your post. I now realize that your reference to 15" was to bring you to the center, not 15" off center. The 49ers and the Eagles lost today too! :-)
Speakers versus Balance vs Amplifier
FWIW I find your findings reasonable except for your description of the soundstage when you are sitting 15" off center. When you are sitting 15" off center is the center of the image in front of you or does it remain centered between your speakers...
Room Acoustics
Lots of folks like the look of panels on their walls and put them there for not much other reason that they were told they were the greatest thing since sex and they assume their presence there will make the room sound better. It might. But there ...
Why would someone feel the need to comment unpleasant things on sale posts
Lots of jerks around here. Typical hobby/sales site. Hang around a while and you will sort it all out. It's not personal. Just don't get in a hurry to take advice until you've done due diligence. :-)
Wall treatments “Asymmetrical”?
Wrong track, I think. Firstly, did you google the Audioholics spiel on U Tube. As I said I didn't watch it at all except for perhaps the first 10 seconds, but he did start describing a use procedure which I thought might answer your preliminary qu...
Which to keep! Pick one of these two soeakers
If I had your stuff and perceived problems my inclination would be to get a decent quality equalizer, like the Schiit Lokius, a six band equalizer with 2 bass frequencies, and supplement the output of the pre-amp i.e. between the pre and the amp. ...
Which to keep! Pick one of these two soeakers
Just for fun, humoring me perhaps, just try running the speakers full range with one amp. First the Musical Concepts then the ARC. Listen to the 'sound' and the differences you get with these amps. I suspect that tonally speaking there might not b...
Which to keep! Pick one of these two soeakers
You need a passive attenuator of some kind between your pre-amp and one of the amps, probably the amp feeding the sub. I see them coming up for sale used between $400 and $600, but from my point of view I think what you might gain by bi amping the...
Tracking down a hum.
Try unplugging sources and see if the hum goes away. It did for me.
Wall treatments “Asymmetrical”?
I’m not aware of one. It is somewhat simple though. The Stereophile test disc has a set of test tones at various frequencies. You measure these test tones at the listening position using the meter. You can start out with your system set up in a ty...
