Best Subwoofer Connection for Music @panzrwagn Thank you for educating me. Then I don’t know why anyone recommends using high level I/O for integrating subs in a music system, but I swear I have read/heard the advice more than once, and it always caused me to scratch my head. I coul...
Best Subwoofer Connection for Music @panzrwagn and others, I think I’ve figured out why some people are recommending the high level connectors, provided that the sub has high-level out, as well. If the full range, high level, signal goes to the sub first, the sub applies a low pass ...
Best Subwoofer Connection for Music @m-db Thanks. I feel that I will to develop some skills along the way because despite several attempts at integrating subs, I haven’t been able to get lucky yet. And you’re right about the room ruling. I’ve got two completely different systems set...
Best Subwoofer Connection for Music @m-db I haven’t gotten that far yet on this go-round. In the past, I’ve placed the sub in the listening position and gone around the room to find the spot the bass was strongest. The Dayton-Amped 15” sub for the McIntosh system is headed for the #...
Best Subwoofer Connection for Music @erik_squires Agreed. It is not the best way to connect a subwoofer and I’m sorry I brought it up.
Best Subwoofer Connection for Music @czarivey 10-4. Up to this point I have done the same. It’s that I keep hearing others say that hi-level speaker connections are better for listening to music. Which makes me wonder if I’m missing something.
Best Subwoofer Connection for Music @czarivey I’m sorry, I completely misread your post to mean that you preferred to use the tape loop for your sub. @paradisecom When I’ve used speaker level inputs on the subs, I’ve connected them as you describe. However, I found the dual coil...

Best Subwoofer Connection for Music @ditusa Thank you, Mike. That was a good read. Thank you, too, for introducing me to a very approachable audiophile expert. I happen to have an active crossover [Pioneer D23] I can put to good use implementing some of Barry’s connection/integratio...
ADD or Audiophile? @ezstreams If I’m reading, I’m not really listening, and the music is in the background of my mind. Like you, I’m often reading, if an album is playing, I’m often reading liner notes, same with CDs, if they have extensive note pages with instrumen...
5 steps in developing hearing @cdc When I stopped building my own speakers in the ‘70’s until I began climbing back into this hobby upon my retirement (in my 70’s), I would have placed myself at the first stage, all speakers needed to be full range, the bigger the woofer, the ...
Living With A Class A Tube Amp Amplifiers employing tubes often present a larger, deeper sound stage that some term ‘halographic.’ Tubes also have a distinctive distortion signature that I notice most with guitar treble. Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan solos sound like they...
Solid state amp vs tube amps @marquis4099 Yes, you will notice a difference, but it may not be as great as you think, and ‘better’ will be a judgement you’ll have to make. My experience: bought the best solid state and tube gear I could afford, some of it, just barely, as...
Power cords: does length matter? @ditusa Thanks for the link. Regarding length, I find that 5 ft is exactly 1.5 meters which some say is the optimum length for a power cable. I also find that 2 meters is 6.5 ft. I own two manufacturer-supplied cables which are very rugged and sti...
Why even bother? I have found that, as a general rule, “first $$$ [sale price] gets it” is the unspoken terms under which an item is sold. Sellers aren’t willing, able, or feel an obligation, to make allowances for buyers, unless, of course, you pay for it first. |
