Power Cords
I'm a little late coming to this thread, but I only just recently discovered Ridge Street Audio's Poiema 3 power cord. My feelings mirror those of Jaguar's in his comments above. In my system, not only did the soundfield open to encompass the enti...
Home made cable lifters.
I wholeheartedly agree with clipsal. Just bend small pieces of cardboard into v-shapes. Notch them if you want to for greater cable holding stability, set them on the rug or floor, with v-shape pointing toward the floor, and place the speaker cabl...
Simple way to burn in phono cable w/ din ?
Think I've got it. A chart indicates in/out/ground numbers (pin holes in female din) associated with various components listed under peripheral/connected. All ones and threes, whether in or out, are "left" indicated, while all fours and fives, whe...
Simple way to burn in phono cable w/ din ?
Thank you Albertporter. Though I've never soldered anything before, tinning the ends seems easy enough, but I'm a little confused as to where the right and left "pins" are inserted into the female din. One site I visited shows a head on view of th...
Dense, powerful sounding TT, decent top $3500 max?
For me, the combination of table, tonearm, tonearm cable AND cartridge makes sound sampling a more complex and tougher task than simply injecting into the audio chain any of the other individual components such as preamp, amp or speakers. Relying ...
Dense, powerful sounding TT, decent top $3500 max?
Forgot to mention...I have the Supratek Cortese preamp and am currently with the low output Grado Sonata cartridge, but will move to either one of the Benz or Shelter cartridges, and not the most expensive model.
Dense, powerful sounding TT, decent top $3500 max?
Thanks, fellows, for your thoughts so far. Jtimothya: I've checked out info before on the Teres 255, and was quite favorably impressed by what I read. I also found interesting your comparative comment regarding the Sota Sapphire, which I owned too...
Info, please, on power cord burn-in
A photo gave me the answer I was looking for. Thanks very kindly to you all, especially the always helpful and interesting Albertporter.
Info, please, on power cord burn-in
To Albertporter: Yes, the typical power cord with IEC (female)end that audiophiles buy to improve/change the sound of their system. This particular brand is called The Absolute Power Cord.
Info, please, on power cord burn-in
Looks like I should have re-stated what I was working with. Since my original thread (FryKleaner/power cord burn-in ? on 12/23) received no reply I posted this second, abbreviated one, which failed to mention I was using Jim Hagerman's component b...
Best recording / performance Dvorak Cello conc.
Currently, they might be tough to find on either cd or lp, but I would opt for either Gendron/Haitink/London Philharmonic (Philips) or Harrell/Levine/London Symphony (RCA), especially the Gendron/Haitink, beautifully detailed and recorded.
Album which you have listened to most?
First, I will say that there is one symphony that I have listened to time and again. I never tire of it, am constantly refreshed by it and never cease to be deeply satisfied by it---Symphony No. 8 in G Major, opus 88, by Dvorak. Hard to imagine th...
Supratek preamps--more laid back or forward ?
Mike and Slowhand---I thank both of you very much. Your assessments are most encouraging, and exactly the kind I was looking for. I've put my order in for the Cortese. Continued good listening for the both of you. Once I've received the preamp and...
Soundstage perspective w/ Chenin and Cortese
I am currently having constucted a dedicated room as well. So what exactly did you hear in terms of soundstage perspective ? Thanks for your reply.
Seek cartridge w/ following description :
Dougdeacon...At rows 5 to 10, the Airy 2 is the most distant sounding ? I'm not making fun of your statement, I'm just sort of amazed ! Rows 5 to 10 are pretty close to things. To echo the old cliche, "it's all relative" ; that is, to the other tw...
