Damping Factor and Overall Negative Feedback.
Thank you, @atmasphere ! I wish I had a better understanding of these very technical design issues and parameters for hi-fi. It's all Greek to me, so a layman's explanation is wonderful.
Damping Factor and Overall Negative Feedback.
Dear @atmasphere - I’ve read many of your comments with great interest, even though the technical info usually goes way over my head! I’ve read you say that you’ve built zero feedback amps for decades. Are your latest Class D amp zero feedback als...
Townshend Audio Podiums: The Full Review
@millercarbon — SO, I have new (to me) Treo CT speakers, and a live floor under them. I'd considered the Townshend platforms. Your opinion? Yes or no? Thanks.
Thoughts: Mofi Sourcepoint 888 vs Fyne Audio 501sp?
@dayglow - Fyne has a great rep and pedigree right? Their founder is an alum of some esteemed brands, iirc. And I am of Scots descent, so I'd be interested. Represent! I hope you will post a review or thoughts. Which one do you favor in their line.
Thoughts: Mofi Sourcepoint 888 vs Fyne Audio 501sp?
@dayglow re "Be very skeptical about over the top rave reviews when regarding budget components. These high profit(%) products need to be sold in volume and quickly before the next claimed "Giant Killer" appears."   For sure! Andrew Jones (the d...
Thoughts: Mofi Sourcepoint 888 vs Fyne Audio 501sp?
I would very much like to audition the MoFi 888 due to the rave reviews (though there are not many out there). I don't know the Fyne, but will Google it.
Looking for my End Game Speaker
Vandersteen Treo CT, which can be placed very close to the front wall, or its bigger brother the Quatro CT (or even the Kento, but $$$$) . The Humboldt is a superb integrated, I’ve read, and the question is whether it would work with the high-pass...
Who puts their speakers right up against the back wall and why?
Re Larsens, vinylvalet ... I have been intrigued with them for years and read all the reviews, but haven't auditioned them. Sadly, The founder, Mr. Larsen, recently died and the future of the company is uncertain, according to the US distributor ...
Who remembers California Audio Labs?
dekay - I still have one too (since the late 90s!) and it sounds great, imo. It’s my backup, to a Rega which is excellent too. The CalAudio is very close in performance. I mostly stream now, with all my CDs ripped to a Roon server.
Physically Comfortable Headphones
@yoyoyaya  - Interesting ("Sennheiser HD800 - much more comfortable than the 650s and extremely light"). I have used the Senn 650 for years and find them very comfortable. I will have to try out the 800 if I decide to upgrade.
High end bookshelf speakers for Small room
Vandersteen Treo CT. They don't take up any more floor space than a bookshelf/monitor speaker on a stand, and can be placed very close to the front wall. Or Audio Note.
Magico speakers too clinical and fatiguing?
"I think Magicos are great outdoor speakers because they don't warp or rust." LOL!
Why are Harbeth speakers expensive while its drivers are not.
I have read that manufacturers of some of the speakers which are based on the original BBC-type monitors have to pay a license fee to the BBC. Of all the variations and permutations of the BBC-type monitors made by Graham, Harbeth, Spendor and oth...
Where Do I Go from Here?
Vandersteen Quatro CT would be my choice, for "only" $20k.  https://www.stereophile.com/content/vandersteen-quatro-wood-ct-loudspeaker-m5-hpa-monoblock-power-amplifier
Mofi Sourcepoint 888?
"did many things impressively except for the upper midrange lower treble dry, brash flavor." That’s not so good! What were they driven with, @avanti1960 ? @deep_333 , I still want to hear them with some good class A/B gear.
