DIY High pass filters for Vandersteen Model 5A Carbon's?
I have similar concerns with the other folks who have responded. First off the Vandersteen filters are designed to be used with the Vandersteen subwoofer and amp that is housed in the lower half of the speaker.  Without that “lower half” any high ...
Internet Radio: Good music that sounds good, who do you like?
If you like electronic music I would recommend SOMA FM, they have a wide variety of channels, not all electronica, but that’s what I listen to.  My favorite is Space Station.
MQA•Foolish New Algorithm? Vote!
No!  I should point out that your title and guidance for answering are in disagreement.  The title of the post asks if MQA is a “Foolish Algorithm”, in that case “Yes” would indicate MQA is a bad (foolish) thing.  In the body of the post it says v...
What is your listening chair?
I’ve been using a BarcaLounger recliner for about ten years and while it has some good attributes, it has lousy lumbar support (for me at least, I’m currently using a small pillow for lumbar support). The lousy lumbar support is compounded by the ...
Building Maple stand need inexpensive wood supplier
Mitch2, what’s the name and location of your wood supplier in Michigan.  Always good to know sources in the neighborhood!
Vandersteen 5A batteries
I recently heard Richard Vandersteen talk about his speakers and afterwards I asked him about replacing the batteries.  He made a comment that if a mistake was made you could send 9 VDC into the amplifier which would cause, shall we say, serious p...
Choice of Vandersteen models
I disagree that the 5’s need a HUGE room. I have a fairly small room and use 5’s and they sound quite good.  A bigger room would be better, but it’s not a necessity.  Having said that, the Quatro Wood may be a better choice for a small room.  I go...
XTC: This Pop
Roberjerman, previous to seeing the documentary I had not heard of that group.  It was given about five minutes, enough to pique my interest.  I will search it out!
A lot of hype about PS Audio, deservedly so ?
Jbuhl, you are correct that PS Audio just assembles (and repairs) at their facility, however a significant portion (can’t say all since I don’t know specifics) of the manufacturing is done in the US. Machinery is expensive and the more advanced eq...
PS Audio DAC output
Missak, glad to hear my second response was the correct one.  I followed the link but the writeup seemed like a sloppy translation from Japanese so I couldn’t make a lot of sense of it.  I’m not familiar at all with Sansui equipment so I can’t rea...
Vandersteen's new affordable mono blocks at the CES 18
I got that same e-mail this morning. Very interesting, but I doubt I’ll bite. One thing not mentioned, how much will they cost? If they are under $10K they may be competitive, but more than that they would have to be pretty impressive. I’ve got a ...
PS Audio DAC output
As soon as I posted this I had a thought about your integrated.  Does the “Direct Input” completely bypass the preamp section as your post says, or does it bypass tone controls?  If you don’t know look at your manual, but if you are already using ...
PS Audio DAC output
Bad idea!  The DL III does not have a volume control.  If you plug this into an input without volume control you will send full voltage to your speakers.  This would be the same as turning the volume all the way up on the integrated.  Do you think...
So how many people jumped on the PS Audio Black Friday Sale For The BHK Amps And Pre Amp?
Tomcy6, I very much like the BHK250!  I’m using with Vandersteen 5 and I think it is a good match.  I was using an Audio Research Classic 60 and the BHK has better definition and low end.  Not to mention I don’t need to change expensive power tube...
So how many people jumped on the PS Audio Black Friday Sale For The BHK Amps And Pre Amp?
I ordered a preamp to go with my DirectStream DAC and BHK 250.  I was happy without a preamp, but thought I’d give the preamp a try at the great price they offered.
