Very good comments and feed back. Thank you. NOS is just that; NOS. No one 'really' knows where they have been or how and if they have been used. No one knows how many times they were bought and sold through middlemen and liquidators. I agree that...

Well, first off, thanks for responding. I have a C-J Premier 17LS pre amp and C-J LP66S amp. Not that it matters, I also have a C-J EF-1 phono stage. (I like C-J equipment). I have e-mailed and called C-J in regards to tube prices and replacements...
Where is my problem ?
James,I would recommend that you borrow or purchase a good quality MONO recording and try changing your volume while it is playing, as you described above. Stereo can create the effect you describe just due to the nature of the recording. Also, I ...
Beware of 'Ghost Switching'
We may never know what type of frequency is causing the issue. My system is facing a dining room window, which may allow outside interference of some sort in the house. We have changed to CFL lights in many locations. I did not realize they could ...

What is the lifespan of a good SS Amp
They could last close to a lifetime. I am still using my Marantz 2285 solid state amp in the basement from 1978! Other than some bulbs being replaced and a good internal dusting and cleaning its still going strong!
Speaker Life
A speaker from the 80's will suffer from foam surround rot. This is deteriation of the foam 'ring' which connects the cone to the frame. Second item of concern would be the caps. Electrolitic caps may loose storage capability or take a memory set ...
Can I get a CES witness?

Loud hum/buzz from my left speaker only
First try swapping the tubes from side to side. If the buzz switches sides best bet is a defective tube. If swaping tubes did not help, swap the speaker cable leads from the back of the unit. If the buzz does not switch sides, you may have a speak...
