speaker placement help
With your head against the back wall, you will experience some doubling of some frequencies - usually a significant increase in treble and sometimes a mid bass boost. If that sounds better, then no problem. But if you find the midrange lost a litt...
Cary SLP98 vs. Rogue 99 Magnum
I have a 99 magnum with Bryston 7B-ST's. Match made in heaven. I haven't heard the Cary.
Ekos problem/setup questions

How to remove grills from Hales Revelation III's?
I replaced the woofer on a Rev III a few years ago.Tip the speaker on its back and tug gently on the bottom of the fabric until you get the cord out of its slot. Then its easy. When replacing, just go the opposite direction and end at the bottom.It...

What is the best speaker cable for Maggies 3.6?
I use Acoustic Zen Satori Shotgun with my 3.6's. I like it a lot. Our systems share the Ikemi.
setting up a listening room in unfinished basement
Bozo's suggestions might make a room overdamped, especially if you have low ceilings. Also, you might not need much help eliminating bounce on the walls if the finish is rough enough.I have Maggie 3.6's in my basement. I bought acoustical foam for ...
Great CDP with No volume control
Try a used Meridian 508-24 (make sure it's not an upgrade from a 508-20) or a Linn Ikemi. Both are terrific. I've owned the Meridian and now own the Ikemi. No volume controls...both ran through tube preamps.
Trojan box sets: dub,reggae,etc......
They are fine -- about what you'd expect from that pre-Rockers era. Lots of tape hiss, mediocre miking on some recordings, but all in all, that kind of spooky in-a-can quality that is part of the sound of that time. So far, I like the music on the...
SS Int Amps: Bryston, Simaudio & Magnum-Dynalab
I loved my Bryston B60R paired with Soliloquy 5.0's. I listen to all kinds of music, sometimes quite loud, sometimes quite soft, and often in the middle. This was a very satisfying combo.
Best Integrated amp for under 4k
Burmester Rondo, hands down
Maggies and Subs - REL vs. ACI
Ditto w/Kck. Maggie 3.6's mated to a REL Strata III, against a wall, not in a corner. Excellent. No experience with ACI subs, but very very very happy with the REL/Maggie combo.
Anybody stop using power conditioning?
I used to use a Blue Circle Power Pillow. It was a useful thing, but I moved and sold it and didn't replace it, and now I don't miss it. Highs were a little softer/cleaner, mids slightly rounder, bass unchanged. I used it for the cd player and pre...
Choking more SPL's out of Maggie 3.6's
Thanks to all who responded. I'm thinking of doing the following:1. Moving to a balanced preamp and running balanced cables (and probably stepping up a little in quality, like to a CAT or BAT)2. Getting some MYE standsAND MOST IMPORTANTLY3. Gettin...
