Did I do ok?
Jond,You may want to check your source of information again. This "deal" sounded too good to be true, so I did a bit of investigating. I do not see any mention of SACD or DVD-A playback for the DVSP300 or DVPS300. I did see it listed as a progress...
Recommend a good Monitor for my existing system
Reference 3A MM De Capo. The De Capo is considered to be one of the best monitors in the world. They also provide excellent bass in addition to all of the other things that great monitors provide. I use mine without a sub and never want for more b...
My weakest link??
Joel,I have had very similar equipment/room. I've owned the Plinius 8200 and the Tyler Acoutics Taylo Reference Monitors. Both of these pieces were good, but they can be bettered, especially in a small room.My current system is a Cary CD-308 w/vol...
Is adding a power amp to an A/V receiver worth it?
OK, I'll take the opposing view. You are correct, some of your current equipment is is a different league. You already have some of the building blocks for an EXCELLENT music system. I think you would be better served if you continue to build on t...

CD players with volume control ?????
This subject comes up about once a week! I'm sure that you can find MANY post in the archives at this site and at AudioAsylum. But since I have a setup like this, I'll give you a few to check out.Theta Miles (the balanced version is supposedly bet...
Integrated amp plus receiver?
You can actually do this very easily. First, you put together the 2-channel music rig. So, connect the Triangles to the output of the integrated amp. Also, if you have a dedicated music source such as a CD player, connect its analog outputs to the...
Ground Loop Humm/Buzz from Television
If you are connected to a coax cable TV feed, it is likely that the cable is causing the issue. This is VERY common and has been widely acknowledged on this and other forums. You can purchase an in line isolation unit that will solve this issue. I...
SACD/Redbook one-box solution?
My guess is that it takes BIG BUCKS to get the redbook performance of your CD-308 standard from a one box SACD/CD player.I own a Cary CD-308 and I previously owned a Sony DVP-9000ES SACD/DVD/CD player. The Sony is regularly praised for its redbook...
Which artists do you just not get?
I've tried and tried, but I just can't get into most of Dave Mathews Band. I wanted to like it because so many people think it is the greatest. I don't get it!I REALLY don't get the whole Metallica thing! The last few things I heard from Metallica...
DAC attack ?
Wheeler,I have been following your recent threads, so I know you are really excited about Audio at this moment. You have purchased an expensive (and well reviewed) DAC and don't think it is a good value vs your old DVD player. Knowing this, here i...
hifi as investment?
I always consider the "deal" when purchasing used equipment. I certainly don't plan to make money if I later sell the piece of equipment, however, I do intend to cut my potential loses on each piece. My plan is to always buy "desirable" components ...

CD player with volume control
I've owned both the Cary CD-308 and Theta Miles(balanced version) and both have sounded great via built in volume control. The Cary sells for about $1500 new or $1000-1100 used and the Theta sell for $800-$1200 used. BTW, the Theta balanced version...
Sony DVP7700 not producing DTS output.
Each time you watch a DTS encoded movie, you must go into the DVD (movies) menu and select DTS. Otherwise, the Sony will use the default format (DD). This setup is in the movie's setup menu, not the player's setup.BTW, this is true of every DVD pl...
