Help Deciding On New Speakers For Small Room, $10k budget
Wow,   Lots of great suggestions here! I’m just now chiming in, but have to say I’m in a similar boat. Also a jazz musician who loves an engaging listening experience. Totally respect where you’re coming from and am very happy for you! My room ...
Pre amp recommendations
SPL Elector is a wonderful and relatively affordable preamp that can scale up to equipment at an exponent. It made an enormous improvement to my system, and just keeps on giving with any upgrade in the chain. Do check it out 🙏🏼👍🏼
Solid State Preamp to replace tube unit
+ 1 @teajay  I’ve had my SPL Elector for some time now, and it has scaled extremely well with every upgrade I’ve had so far.    It can be successfully paired with power amps at least up to 10k - not what my amp costs not anywhere close! But it’s...
Solid State preamp Brands
Why the SPL Elector gets such little love! Beyond me. It flies so under the radar, but is IMMENSELY GOOD. Can really scale with very high end pairing components. And not nearly as pricey as many mentioned here. 👍🏼💯
Want to build a rack with sandwich layered dampening
Some more really great ideas! Of course, more to think about. Which is fine since I’ve been obsessing over this for some time. Just to clarify, I’ve also got spring isolators and other products under my components, but will try more of the St...
Want to build a rack with sandwich layered dampening
Thank you all, these are some great recommendations and I really appreciate this… @dekay I was actually looking into the Lack, a bit too deep but not out of consideration. It could also be slightly modified if needed. I was also looking at a Tib...
Stack Audio-SmoothLAN Network Filter- WOW!
Was considering one of these, just might have to pull the plug on one. I already have some more industrial filters from dx engineering after a d-link switch - just a bit of a difference. Worth trying this instead if you’re getting that level of im...
Which has a greater influence on sound quality, the amp or the preamp?
Would have to agree with signal source being the most palpable. An upgrade of streamer with a good power supply (and better power cable on it) pretty well transformed my system.
Differences between Harbeth, Spendor, Graham, etc. ?
I have the Spendor classic 4/5’s. Wouldn’t necessarily say they are inherently warm in character, but they do throw a surprising amount of bass with power behind them which could be part of that “warm” assessment. Can sound far bigger than their s...
PREAMPLIFIER UPGRADE QUESTION
As per some that have suggested something that does not need be pricey to be excellent, what you’re describing really does fall into the camp of SPL. Yes, I’m a fanboy of SPL. But the Elector pre had literally transformed my system. The newest ite...
Is there anything other than a Benchmark DAC?
So many great dacs mentioned here. The Abbas is one that is quite special. But outside of something along the tube Dac offerings out there - which seem to bring something exceptional to the presentation - you should look into new designs like the ...
Could Class D really be that good?
Hypex Nilai renders a new level of sonic refinement over the pre ious modules, ice power included. The most underrated out there atm. I’m looking forward to getting the diy kit for the Nilai 500 amp myself.
Streamers under $1500
Volumio Rivo + upgrade power supply is superb. Easily beats out most options up to $1500 👍🏼
Accuphase or Leben for heavy metal
+1 @lalitk on SPL Their stuff is powerful, dynamic, clean, holographic while balanced, yet still super nuanced. I’ve got the Elector pre and have to say that I’m enjoying everything from chamber jazz to AC/DC with two different amps used so far. ...
40+ watts SET, cost is not a problem
Have you tried any other set amps with the TAD’s just to make sure that you actually need 40watts of SET? Sustained and peak current delivery kinda rules all in most of these equations, provided the ps is sufficiently healthy. But yeah, 1 ohm dip...
